For those asking for progress I am showing something. I understand we are all tired of this conversation but I want to hear the counter arguments.

Progress but not perfect. I think there is plenty of room to grow and he does have a fumble problem. I also think the scheme would destroy most QBs in the league.

Do I know if he is the guy? No I don’t know. But I am seeing growth.

I’m actually leaning hard towards keeping him and drafting mhj. Im not sold on any young QBs at the moment.

If you avoid looking at stats and just watch the games, you can see how misleading stats can be. Sure, Fields made some decent throws Monday night, but 47% of his passes went behind the line of scrimmage. He had a couple bad missed throws, but even worse, he seems to be afraid to take chances or even see the open man. His instinct is to tuck and run instead of going through proper progression of receivers. Too often he is just standing there staring downfield not seeing anyone to pass to.

I am a Justin stan too, but speak had a block the other day where they were debating Fields and Acho showed a graphic of his career passer rating and giveaways by quarter. It is really bad from that perspective. From 1st to 4th, his passer rating is 85.4, 85.1, 102.3, and then an abysmal 65.1! He is tied for most giveaways in the 4th quarter since 2021 with 17.

So while I am still all in on Fields, that graphic made me dubious as to whether there really is a concern with him finishing games. Perhaps it’s not a good statistic to look at, since Bears have to take more risks in the 4th if they are playing from behind, but idk.

Bears will never get a chance to sign a rookie qb like Williams again. Mark my words, if they go with fields they will regret it forever.

Fumbles should always be included. Picks and fumbles are essentially the same result.

You have to add in his fumbles and sacks. He has a ton of negative plays that don’t factor into your statistics.

To me the ultimate question is do you trust him when you are down by 4 with under 2 minutes to play? Last week he made a great throw in clutch time, but historically he has been bad in that situation. I am not willing to say he is washed, but I need to see him do that multiple times to close out the season.

If he can’t win, they should move on. I really, really want him to be that guy but he just seems to not have that finishing instinct.

Do you think he has it in him to do what Lawrence did against San Diego in the playoffs last year? I just don’t see it. I see him topping out at Geno Smith level which isn’t bad, but probably won’t win a Super Bowl for you. He should have been the #2 pick in that draft, but compared to Lawrence he is average.

Stats aren’t everything. The guy seems to never know where to go with the ball. Then he’s indecisive whether he should run or pass rather then just make a play.

I think average have a way to glossing over the real story.

Fields had two games where he threw for 8 TDs alone…

In those two games, he was 8 TD to 1 INT.

In the other 6 of his 2023 games, he is 4 TD to 5 INT.

Even in the Denver game, Fields disappeared in the 3rd and 4th quarter, losing a fumble that resulted in a Denver TD and he threw an INT with less that 2 min left in the game.

Yes, the defense gave up a shit ton of points, but damn…Fields just collapsed in the 4th quarter and helped is team lose.

So no, I do not think the average you put up show an accurate picture of who Fields is as a QB. This is why his W/L record actually matters.

I’m a big Fields fan and would love nothing more than him to run the table down the stretch and change everyone’s mind.

That being said, if the bears end up with #1 or #2 overall, which is looking extremely likely, I don’t know how you pass on resetting the QB clock again. It makes too much sense for Poles to take his shot and buy his time. If we didn’t have the panthers pick and ended up at say, #8, I don’t think we’d be drafting a qb. We have another year + 5th year option if you wanted so it’s not the final decision time.

For me, if we keep this staff (which I hope we don’t) then you keep Fields. I don’t want them to let a lame duck staff draft a QB again.

If we get a new coach (please get Harbaugh) then you let him decide what to do. Luckily the season finishes, then you figure out the coach, and then you draft.

I don’t like the truther/“realists” arguing about echo chambers with each other at this time. There’s no need to make a decision right now other than for ego so let’s watch it play out.

    Just my $.02
