I look around the team and we don’t have too many glaring weaknesses. Our coaching is that garbage.

No. It’s the players. Coaching might cost us a win or two, but we’re one of the worst teams in football for two years running because of the players. Most notably the QB.

What would Mike Tomlin do with this roster?

Obviously we’ll never know for sure, so let’s not argue about who is right and who is wrong.

I think we would be at worst 6-5 with Tomlin as HC. Possibly 7-4.

For sure, slam-dunk wins are GB week 1, Denver week 4, Detroit week 11

Possible wins - TB week 2, NO week 9

I’m not sure about Minnesota or Chargers

How many elite rosters are there right now? I mean flawless rosters. Even KC has obvious weaknesses. Miami has struggled recently. Denver has surged to a .500 record.

The Eagles might have the best roster construction, and the Lions are good but even they should be on a 2gm losing streak after yesterday’s game.

I’m not defending JF or saying we have an elite defense. I’m just saying a legit HC would have gotten more out of this team.

Tomlin? Ask a Steeler fan and they’d say with the Bears talent level the last few year, he’d be just as good as Trestman/Nagy/Eberfluss…maybe 1 or 2 wins better.

Our talent also been hurt. The first few weeks if I remember correctly our offensive line and defensive backs were hurt. Those obviously make it harder to win.

But yeah coaching has been problematic. I am always constantly blown away watching other teams on offensive. It is always a reminder that out coaching for offensive have been terrible.

Excited to see what Poles and Warren do for the draft, free agency, and for coaching.

This is something we can’t forget. Poles but a good portion of our draft capital into the secondary and the only one who has consistently stayed healthy is Stevenson, a 2nd round rookie CB. Our O Line has also seen every starter except Wright go down for at least a game, and it took Eberflus two games of shoddy snapping/blocking by Whitehair to notice he is struggling at guard, let alone as a backup center. People think Justin being out gave our offense a rhythm, which was true, but Bagent was taking the easy throws against weak defenses which exposed him once he had to go deeper into tighter windows. The biggest problem with coaching was the piss poor tackling to start the year which literally comes down to coaching by our DC before he disappeared after an FBI investigation and our HC took a month to get them to league level. This coaching is such a mess, I don’t feel comfortable evaluating any of the players if they have managed to show any flash of potential.

Eberflus is fucked cuz last week was a prime example of his scheme not working. We grind the clock for 40 minutes, the HITS principles are all checked, & the cover 2 should be a bend don’t break defense that makes teams burn clock especially 4 minutes & up 12

I’m not as critical on eberflus last week. The defense for the game play excellent until the end which you mention is certainly problematic but the lions are an excellent team.

What bothers me most about eberflus is his press conference and energy. His style is an unsalted plain cracker that’s been dropped on the floor. I think his defense game plan is “fine” enough but a headcoach needs to have some accountability and he has none.

His scheme is at fault, they can’t get consistent pressure with 4 and he had to blitz a LB the last 4 minutes. All Goff had to do was replace the blitzed with the ball.

Our coaches play it safe as if they have something to lose. My guys, you’ve won 6 games in 2 seasons. Mash your foot on the gas pedal. I forgive you for going for it with a bomb to DJ Moore. Use a play that makes sense to take a shot. Stop it with the 3rd n 1 sneaks. Use an actual play. Hell, the d thinks run, throw a fucking bomb. All guns blazing

This is why I get annoyed at the Poles hasn’t gotten any talent crowd. Considering where the Bears were in the last Pace year to now; night and day difference. Fields is too inconsistent but, I also feel like a different coaching staff would be better for him.

On defense our entire secondary would be starters on over 75% of the league

Our LBer core is top 10.

Our DL is below average but could be a lot worse after the Sweat trade.

On offense, our WR/TE room is top 10.

      Our Oline is above average

      Our RB is top 10.

This team is not ready for a deep playoff run. But there’s talent across the roster.

On paper it’s a mediocre roster at best, yes. But they’re still all very young so the potential to be good is there. Comes down to coaching

I mean I agree this roster isn’t great. But there’s a lot more talent on this roster than a 3 win team. Coaching has directly cost us at least two wins this year (Denver and Detroit)

We have a bottom top record while having a bottom 10 roster. Sounds about right.

Our coaching is bad, but make no mistake, this isn’t a playoff roster.

The O line is finally coming together. We have a #1 WR and a top end TE and that is about it on offense.

On defense, Sweat is the only legitimate starter (the young DTs are growing but not fully there yet), the LB unit on paper should be pretty good but have underperformed (possibly due to bad D Line play) And most of the secondary has underperformed aside JJ (Stevenson plays high risk high reward and Gordon has been pretty good in the slot)

We are probably a WR and a DL/DB away from being a playoff roster, which luckily enough we could theoretically get with just our first two draft picks.

The roster is probably a 6-8 win team while we will probably finish with 4-6 wins.

We also have a great RB in foreman he ran for 900yards last year in 10 games? Another example of Eberflus being an idiot making him inactive in the beginning of the year

I 100% agree with OP. You can’t sit here and say that if he had a top coach in the league we don’t win AT LEAST Denver and Detroit. I’m not saying we’re SB caliber, but 100% should be .500

Coaches are usually blamed for the ineptness of the team, typically unfairly. But there are a few things that you can directly attribute to coaching; Preparedness, discipline, energy and attitude are all directly linked to coaching. And more often than not this team comes out flat, commits penalties, looks completely unprepared and appears to be waiting for the game to win.

This is why I believe Eberflus needs to go. I thought the team played hard last year, and despite their record they were far from the worst team in the league. But this year has been pretty embarrassing and it started with Week 1 against a below average Packers team.

Let’s be honest. All things considered, we could be 500 with some small adjustments. We’re not that far away from competitive football.
