Justin Fields is the present and future of Chicago Bears football. The Carolina Panthers' decision to fire head coach Frank Reich less than one year into his…
It’s clear Like Getsy does not trust JF. Hence all the screen passes. However I do not think Getsy calls an offense that helps a QBs strengths. He does Matt Nagy where he designs a scheme and if the QB can’t run it it’s his fault. Instead of designing one to help the QB.
To be fair it seems JF has trouble reading defenses and his drop back and release are often slow or delayed.
The problem isn’t Fields or Getsy, it’s lack of talented personnel. Poles pointed out that problem when he said that this rebuild will not happen over night. The rebuild isn’t finished and both Getsy and Fields are playing with %75-%80 of an offense. The offensive line is so bad, and the pressure is so great, that Getsy can’t run his true offense so that Fields can shine. Flus was able to make up for his lack of personnel by blitzing which actually weakens his defensive scheme, but more importantly the addition of Sweat. Offense didn’t have the luxury of any new talent additions.
This sub had the same conundrum with the “Nagy or Trubisky” question, and as it turns out Mitch is a career backup and Nagy is running what might be the worst Offense of the Mahomes era.
But I don’t care. The coaches are horrible; they gots to GO. Then build me some depth at o-line. When we have very good pass pro and solid/dominant run blocking… THEN you draft a talented first rounder if you want and I won’t bitch. Drafting anyone before that is a gawdamned waste. I don’t need to smoke a top 5 pick again OR a massive trade for some rocket arm only to watch them take more sacks than any QB in the league and get hurt. I’ve seen that movie too many times before and for everyone that wants another repeat of that crap you may kindly go screw yourselves. For now? Get me a top five receiver and depth on the line. Amen and pass the taters.
I think it’s pretty obvious Getsy doesn’t think JF1 can do much as a QB. That’s why the play calling looks the way it does. Looked different with Bagent in there. Whether he is right if wrong on Fields the future will tell but just listen to Getsy on the mic answer questions and you can tell dude is pretty smart. Doesn’t mean he is automatically a great coach but he does seem to be able to break down what went wrong on every bad play and why it went wrong. House money rn says fields will be gone and coaches stay. Whether we fans like it or not.
I love Fields and want him to succeed more than anything. But if you end up with the 1st pick it would be a sin to not take Williams. It just opens up more possibilities for us and resets the QB pay clock
That in and of itself isn’t really a knock on Fields. He would have to play really good for that to be not true. I think he’s been decent but not good enough
I threw this question out yesterday in a thread (I don’t think anyone answered it).
Would you be willing to draft MHJ with our earlier first round pick, and trade down a little with our other first rounder to target a QB other than Caleb Williams or Drake Maye?
Opinions would boil down to three things: what you think of Fields potential, what you think of the potential of the QBs projected at the top of the draft, and what you think of Marvin Harrison Junior. Personally, I think Marvin Harrison Jr is the best prospect in the draft, I’m neither in nor out on Fields at the moment, but am also skeptical of Williams and Maye. It also looks like there are a few other intriguing QBs. I am sure my opinion on Fields will firm up one way or the other after these next five games and my opinions on all of the draft prospects will be fluid until the actual draft, but that was one possibility I meditated on. Making the change at QB, but taking the best prospect first and a guy like Jayden Daniels a little later.
Personally no I would not. If we are not drafting a QB with the Carolina pick, I would say we should roll with Fields next year and probably want to either draft MHJ or trade out that #1 pick for a bigger haul than we got from the Panthers and then use our second pick to draft another stud position player rather than rolling the dice on a premium pick for someone like Daniels
I don’t hate this idea but the drop off from Williams/Maye to Penix/McCarthy/etc is significant.
Historically there’s just not a lot of success in the mid first round (please ignore Mahomes and Watson we don’t discuss that draft). But That’s usually where Josh Rosen, Mac Jones, Jordan Love, etc. are at.
Getting guys like Russ, Dak, Hurts, etc in mid rounds are a total fluke IMO. There are 5-10 QBs drafted every year in that range and I can think of 3 in the league right now that can play at a high level. For reference Jalen Hurts and Drew Lock were almost the same pick in different drafts.
Jayden Daniels is really starting to pique my interest. I still have a lot to learn about all these prospects, but I’m wondering if Williams and Mayes are living off their reputations while this kid is outplaying the field.
Finally, someone looking outside the box. Why isn’t the fanbase looking at data not directly in front of them? People were arguing between Fields and Bagent. I’d argue for neither. People are talking about getting rid of the GM. I think the whole fucking box needs to go - owners included. Get that old hag out of ownership. It’s embarrassing at this point.
If we have number one overall and we are firing our staff, there’s no doubt I would rather start with a fresh QB and fresh coaching staff. Let the coach and OC evaluate the pre draft talent along with the GM and FO staff. Let them all go get their guy.
If they fail at that with two QBs that are supposedly the best since Burrow and Lawrence, then there’s no hope for this POS franchise until the McCaskeys sell.
I would argue that the bears have more than 2 problems. They need to clean house. The front office and the coaching staff need to disappear, and at least a third of the players belong on the practice squad.
A lot of people are debating whether Fields is the problem or the coaches are the problem.
We very well might have 2 problems.

So my opinion let’s move on from both.
Time is a flat circle
Which is why they shout just clean house

Exactly, they’re not mutually exclusive. I’m also convinced that Fields can be good, but it may never happen with the Bears.

Willam’s will be yet another highly drafted QB bust. Look at how he plays against good teams vs bad teams.
Caleb is dog shit, if we don’t take marve we deserve to win 4 games a year for the next decade
What does Maye do that wows you? He puts up meh stats against ACC competition. The biggest thing I like about him is his frame
Fuck Williams he’s a little crybaby

More like 99 problems, and the bitch is #1
Completely agree. At this point. I’m okay if the move on from Fields. But they 100% better move on from Getsy.
I would argue that the bears have more than 2 problems. They need to clean house. The front office and the coaching staff need to disappear, and at least a third of the players belong on the practice squad.
100% this.
We DO have 2 problems. I hate that the coaches are so bad that we can’t simply settle it as that. Calling over 20 screens serves NO ONE
27-37, 217 yds, 0 TDs.
Is the most Justin Fields stat line ever.
Mitch and Nagy all over again. Both sucked.
Same problem once again.
