Justin Fields is the present and future of Chicago Bears football. The Carolina Panthers' decision to fire head coach Frank Reich less than one year into his…
I love Fields and want him to succeed more than anything. But if you end up with the 1st pick it would be a sin to not take Williams. It just opens up more possibilities for us and resets the QB pay clock
That in and of itself isn’t really a knock on Fields. He would have to play really good for that to be not true. I think he’s been decent but not good enough
I threw this question out yesterday in a thread (I don’t think anyone answered it).
Would you be willing to draft MHJ with our earlier first round pick, and trade down a little with our other first rounder to target a QB other than Caleb Williams or Drake Maye?
Opinions would boil down to three things: what you think of Fields potential, what you think of the potential of the QBs projected at the top of the draft, and what you think of Marvin Harrison Junior. Personally, I think Marvin Harrison Jr is the best prospect in the draft, I’m neither in nor out on Fields at the moment, but am also skeptical of Williams and Maye. It also looks like there are a few other intriguing QBs. I am sure my opinion on Fields will firm up one way or the other after these next five games and my opinions on all of the draft prospects will be fluid until the actual draft, but that was one possibility I meditated on. Making the change at QB, but taking the best prospect first and a guy like Jayden Daniels a little later.
I don’t hate this idea but the drop off from Williams/Maye to Penix/McCarthy/etc is significant.
Historically there’s just not a lot of success in the mid first round (please ignore Mahomes and Watson we don’t discuss that draft). But That’s usually where Josh Rosen, Mac Jones, Jordan Love, etc. are at.
Getting guys like Russ, Dak, Hurts, etc in mid rounds are a total fluke IMO. There are 5-10 QBs drafted every year in that range and I can think of 3 in the league right now that can play at a high level. For reference Jalen Hurts and Drew Lock were almost the same pick in different drafts.
Jayden Daniels is really starting to pique my interest. I still have a lot to learn about all these prospects, but I’m wondering if Williams and Mayes are living off their reputations while this kid is outplaying the field.
Personally no I would not. If we are not drafting a QB with the Carolina pick, I would say we should roll with Fields next year and probably want to either draft MHJ or trade out that #1 pick for a bigger haul than we got from the Panthers and then use our second pick to draft another stud position player rather than rolling the dice on a premium pick for someone like Daniels

Fuck Williams he’s a little crybaby
Caleb is dog shit, if we don’t take marve we deserve to win 4 games a year for the next decade
What does Maye do that wows you? He puts up meh stats against ACC competition. The biggest thing I like about him is his frame

Willam’s will be yet another highly drafted QB bust. Look at how he plays against good teams vs bad teams.
