I brought this up a couple of days ago stating that we don’t know how much power Kevin Warren has and was laughed at. I thought he only had control over the management (stadium, revenue being brought in, etc) side of the bears, but maybe not. Thoughts?

I think Poles deserves more time, but tying himself to Eberflus could be his downfall. If he truly thinks Eberflus should get another year, that is a fireable offense.

The case for keeping Eberflus, to the extent one exists, is in the improvement we see each week from the young guys. You can’t separate growth in guys like Jones, Stevenson, Dexter, Gordon, Fields, etc. from the guy who keeps talking about the need to get the details right and focus on execution week after week. These things are related!

It’s fair to ask if Eberflus is the coach to make this team a winner (maybe not), but it’s also fair to ask if he is the best coach to build a winning roster (maybe).

This is the thing that gives me a little bit of solace. If he fires Flus and brings in a new coach, he likely buys himself at least 2 more years as GM. I think he’s smart enough to realize that. Fire Flus, bring in a new coach. Have new coach work with Fields. If it goes horribly wrong, draft a QB in 25, get at least another year, maybe two. I mean that’s the rational decision that I would make. If he sticks with Flus AND Fields next year and it’s miserable. he’s cooked. If he drafts Maye or Williams and it’s a disaster, he’s cooked.

I don’t think Poles is the one making the call on head coach and I think he’s smart enough to realize that.

You’re thinking of a different sport or organizations logic/power dynamics. Poles may have a seat at the table but he’s not making that call.

Poles has not been the problem and should keep his job for another couple years for dj Moore, two first rounders next year, and montez sweat extension. Anyway https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-bears/why-matt-eberflus-ryan-poles-finally-gave-the-real-reason/

Nope. Because any new coach worth their salt is going to say “I want to start fresh with my own QB.”

And its not a situation where he picked a hot shot coordinator and it did not work out or a retread whose glory days are behind them. He picked a mid as hell DC whose unit was mid as hell and ran an outdated concepts.

Not sure Flus even has a lot to do with it. Warren being hired was always a wild card since he didn’t hire these guys. He has no ties to them.

Man I disagree. The absolute worst pass rush in the NFL last year was “addressed” by signing a guy no one else wanted in August.

In the NFL especially, games are won in the trenches. Poles hasn’t shown he has any understanding of that concept whatsoever. He needs to go. There’s absolutely no foundation to build off of whatsoever.

Yeah how he really feels about Flus is really the X factor in Poles fate to me. If he actually likes Flus, thinks Flus should stay and will only fire him if it’s the only way to save his job, then he doesn’t deserve to keep his own because if he thinks Flus is anything but awful then how can we trust him to hire any other coach?

I agree although part of me feels like the Eberflus hire was forced by the org and his agent but I can’t say that for 100% for obvious reasons.

Poles’ misses literally are the 'Flus hiring, drafting Velus Jones, and the Claypool.

I feel like he’s done a decent job building a young core, just needs to do better w/ a legit coaching hire and continue to spend wisely and hit on draft picks.

I honestly feel like the pros outweigh the cons w/ Poles and I’d be willing to see what he can do w/ an additional year or two.

Could care less about Poles. He seems real mediocre. Fine enough by Bears standards. As long as the entire coaching staff is gone I don’t care who the GM is.
