Fields throws for under 200 yards and fumble in the endzone yet again. Truthers call it a “great game.”
Get criticism and then post proven QBs who had below 200 yard games as if that somehow matters.

He should never have had to be in the position to fumble at the end of that game though. And his coaches basically told him they didn’t trust him to close out the game with their play calling on the previous 2 drives, trying to run out the clock with smallish leads and then he’s expected to lead a game-winning drive with little time on the clock after a demoralizing comeback from the Lions because Flus and Getsy are calling the game scared and don’t know how to get their best players on the field in crunch time.

But absolutely none of that matters because the rookie RT gets beat quick while Fields is looking to his left. I get the criticism that Fields isn’t clutch. This loss wasn’t on him. You need pass attempts to get 300 yard games. I’ve been pounding the table about this. Fields only has three career games with 35+ pass attempts while there are 12 teams averaging more than that this year. If you look at that stat line for Mahomes, he had 43 pass attempts? Of course he’s going to have a history of volume passing yards, they throw the ball more. A lot more.
Some of this is on Fields. He has historically been a tick slow making decisions and takes sacks that could be pass attempts. But some of this is on the play calling which is consistently conservative. If you add back the sacks and scrambles, we still don’t pass enough for Fields to prove he can put up numbers like that. If his completion percentage was in the toilet, that would be one thing. But that is fine.
Fields may not be capable of putting up many 300 yard games. The trouble is, we will never know if we decide to make Khalil Herbert the star of the offense.

Mahomes is truly a generational player though so I never like the comparison. I don’t compare every QB to Tom Brady. Granted, I imagine most elite QBs have had more 300+ yard games in their first 3 years.
