I think there are 4 more winnable games (MN, ATL, AZ, and GB). Given that it’s always been a rebuild project, I think we keep Poles, Flus, and Fields if we get 7 wins, especially if we look okay in the losses.

The team is on the way up, still playing hard, and I think 3 years is a more reasonable timeline.

The fact that we may end up with a top two pick from the Panthers changes everything. Fields is due to get paid and we could give him another year to prove it but his option would cost 23.5 million the year after. That’s essentially a fully guaranteed one year rental. There’s no guarantee we end up with a pick to draft a qb in 25 in case he doesn’t work out.

Fields is not due to get paid. Maybe we go for the 5th year option (doubtful) or let him play out his contract (possible) or we trade him (probable). None of those options require us to pay him more next year. If Fields shows out the rest of this season, maybe we do the fifth year option, but I don’t see any scenario other than getting to the Superbowl that makes us fork up a contract after this season.

If we get the #1 or #2 pick and don’t take a QB I’m seriously done with this franchise. That would be a straight up admission they aren’t serious about trying to win.
