Echo chamber? Bears subreddit an echo chamber? OP, have you been active in this sub lately? We’re by far and away the most harsh and critical on this sub, way more so than any other fanbase is. I’ve seen more people outside of our subreddit say they like Justin Fields or they think the Bears will be fine with better coaching and a few more roster pieces.
Here you get 1-2 (maybe 3) posts a week that are somewhat positive, and even those posts get completely shit upon and people are waging war amongst the comment section.
Any true bears fan knows NOBODY hates the bears more than their own fanbase, lmao
Fine job regurgitating this “hot take”.
Our fanbase tends to look at everything the Bears to thru rose colored glasses at first. I was the same way for many years, but the Mitch/Nagy/Pace era finally snapped me out of it. The years of failure have made me much more critical of the team and I try to look at each move objectively now. Like OP said, this sub is pretty much an echo chamber of positive takes where the rest of the NFL world pretty much has the opposite view. I want Sweat to workout but I’m not getting my hopes up that he even re-signs with us next season, especially if Flus sticks around
The Bears are going to try and extend Sweat. Young is purely a rental. Young has major injury history. Sweat has missed 7 games in his entire career (due to a fractured jaw of all things). The edge class this year is weak relatively speaking, and this fills one of their biggest needs this offseason.
Comparing this to the Claypool trade is stupid. They traded for Claypool based on potential. Sweat has proven he can produce at a high, consistent level.
I’m not saying it’s a great trade. I think it’s good. It might be a slight overpay, but not nearly to the same level as Claypool. But some trades have more context than others. I remember when everyone was freaking out about the return we got for Mack when it was the only way to fully get his contract off the books.
It was a position of need for a good DE. They need two, at least, but having the chance to sign him before he goes to market is what the trade is really for. One less position to draft. They can easily recoup that 2 by trading down in the draft.
This is hilarious because the echo chamber in this sub hates the move.
It’s popular to shit on the Bears. That’s the echo chamber.
I personally like the move. I think Sweat is a huge addition to the team. Here’s the thing too, Chase Young is a rental and SF will let him walk. Imagine if the Bears sign him this offseason. Suddenly, the Bears have 2 DEs in a bad DE draft class.
I would think that they talked with the agent before making the deal, understood the deal Sweat would want, and that deal aligned with what the Bears are willing to pay before making the trade. That seems like it should be a common practice. frankly, if it wasn’t done that way, it’s gross incompetence on the Bears… which we can’t rule out.
But I would imagine the deals of the extension come out later this week. At that point, I believe this becomes a very good trade for the Bears. If this doesn’t happen, then the OP is spot on.
Bro but is RAS off the charts. Seriously tho, were not going to know how this pans out until the end of the season and if they can get a deal done with him. Until then I remain cautiously pessimistic.
So many of you have low standards and that’s really sad.
Listen to the first 15 minutes of Jason Goff’s podcast.
Washington beat writer (who knows more than national reporters) basically said Sweat was on consensus more valuable player than Young. Said a 2nd was higher than he expected but he did have one high up personnel person say he’d give a 2nd for Sweat and a 3rd for Young, so we’re not alone here.
Also said Sweat is better than anyone you’re drafting in the 2nd, so it’s positive value for the Bears assuming an extension is coming.
You posted a screenshot of somebody’s half-baked opinion that aligns with your narrative. Like this motherfucker you’ve quoted is a genius level minded football analyst.
You’re better off taking somebody’s reddit post and used that.
Bears fans live in a constant cesspool of misery.
We’re 2-16 in our last 18 games and fans are trying to argue that we have a talented roster and Poles has done a good job building this team.
The poor bastards don’t even know what a competent GM looks like.
