  • Crazy to think that we could easily be right in the mix this year. Even going beyond the Broncos and Lions games, we could have easily (and probably should have) beat the Vikings the first time and the Saints. If fields didn’t get hurt, we could be in a very different spot right now. We could be going into the bye week 8-4 and be fighting for a playoff spot.

This doesn’t mean much because it’s all just a big “what if” but it definitely gets me excited for the future. Don’t get me wrong, we still suck and it’s been ugly, but I’ve seen a lot of improvement throughout the year and to see some light in the middle of the time we are still rebuilding is kinda nice. We may be closer to fielding a competitive team than I once thought

  • Of course everyone wants to talk about Fields and the offense, but I think we owe the defense a lot of credit.

They have made exponential improvement since the beginning of the season. I remember watching the first few games this year and thinking to myself that I had never seen a Bears defense as terrible in my life. They really turned it around though. The pass rush is a night and day difference (the addition of sweat helps a lot) and they’ve made tremendous improvement on 3rd and 4th downs which they really struggled with earlier in the season.

They shined this game in particular, but they have honestly been playing very well the last few weeks. There’s still some things that need to be worked out, namely our pass coverage in the secondary, but they are really coming together as a unit. Most importantly, they do the #1 thing a defense needs to do: they put us in positions to win games. Very excited about the future of this unit, still wish we could have extended JJ though.

  • This argument may be valid for Drake Maye, but Caleb Williams has been on the radar for years. It was a huge deal when he decided to transfer to USC because everyone was trying to get him. He’s been made a way bigger deal than even TLaw.

I agree that every draft will end up having stud QBs, but in terms of rating the prospects before anyone actually knows how good they will be, you’re almost never gonna see a guy as highly talked about as Caleb Williams.

Up until this season, which he has suffered some tough losses, demonstrated some obvious flaws, and has had concerns with his character brought up, he was the most hyped prospect I have ever heard of (again, not that this translates into the NFL, I’m just saying you are probably not going to see a qb met with his level of glazing by scouts for awhile)

I personally don’t like Caleb as a future nfl qb, but a lot of people who know a lot more about football than I do seem to think he’s that guy

  • I think so. We lose a lot of games almost exclusively due to poor coaching. Injuries have played a part as well to be fair. But in terms of talent, we have multiple pro bowl caliber players on both sides of the ball.

Defensively, with a line backing core of Edwards, Edmunds, and even Jack Sanborn, we should have way better results than we do. Those are some talented guys out there. Not to mention the addition of Sweat. Our secondary has good players too, Eddie, JJ, Brisker when healthy… I always struggle to find a reason we have struggled so much defensively given our roster.

We have plenty of talent on offense as well. We have a great RB room, a top 10 WR, and a surprisingly solid OLine (again, when healthy) that maintains one of the best rushing attacks in the league and has drastically improved their pass protection

I think you add a few first rounders and maybe a free agent or two and suddenly we have a very good roster. The problem has been and will continue to be the coaching.

  • Was watching the game last night and thought it was interesting how Chris Collinsworth kept saying how much Fields could learn from Bagent, a rookie.

Bagent holds himself with good composure, does not panic, gets the ball out quickly, and manages the game well. From what little I’ve seen of him, he also has a natural ability to read the defense. These are all the areas Fields struggles in.

However, Fields is just way more talented. He’s our starter, Bagent is our QB2, and there’s no question about it. I like Bagent a lot and love his story, but he missed some pretty easy throws and doesn’t have near the athletic ability as Justin.

Hopefully Fields learned a thing or two from staying involved and watching Tyson from the sidelines and we can see some of that mental game transition over. He’s got half a season left to save his career. Let’s wish him the best and see what happens. Bear tf down
