It’s a cyclical thing I guess. Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, RG3, Justin Herbert (once he began starting) were all recent examples of guys who had exceptional rookie seasons.

Then you had a few start slowly, like Lawrence, Josh Allen, Goff (maybe not the best example, he was so up and down), etc. who took a while to hit their stride.

I think the lesson here isn’t that they’re going to have less time to prove themselves, it’s that regardless of how quickly they get it (or don’t), you need to be patient.

I generally think a first year is a learning year, the second year is going to give you a relative idea of a prospect’s ceiling and floor, and by the end of the third year he’s either getting it or he’s not. There are of course exceptions to this, but that’s generally how I’ve seen it.

I’m not surprised. I think Snyder favored him because he at least got the team to the playoffs in his first season. Scandal after scandal started hitting Snyder and I think he was happy with the stability Rivera brought.

With Harris coming on board, he’s probably going to want to start making his mark on the team, and my guess is in the next few years we’re going to see big changes to the team and organization to rid itself of the Snyder poison.

So I wasn’t surprised to see him retained this long, but I’d certainly be surprised if Harris doesn’t clean house after this season.

I know passer rating it outdated and imperfect, but when I look at the passer rating I at least have some semblance of the QB’s performance. QBR? I feel like it’s all over the place, head scratching, and rarely aligns to a QB’s quality.

As for PFF analytics, I like those when they make players on my team look good, but I don’t like them when they make players on my team look bad.
