This was all over the place yesterday.
My question is, who the hell listens to this guy describe himself as a prophet and as the second coming of Moses and nods their head in agreement?

I can’t imagine many Christians agreeing with this.
    But I’ve been wrong before.

The National Association of Christian Lawmakers. A group that believes it’s their divine mandate to turn the US into a bona fide theocratic state following their particular brand of crazy. (read: christian nationalists)

The lunatics have taken over the asylum long ago in US politics. The Trumpers want fascism and they’ll do anything to get it.

that’s an insult to people who are in mental asylums. they have far more common decency and integrity than to support Trump’s policies. and in fact, I doubt Trump cares about mentally ill people. he’s the one proposing cutting welfare, he’s the one who gutted the only effort towards improving healthcare in the US — albeit it was poor and cowardly, but an effort nonetheless — and he is the one who promotes fascist ideology. and guess what fascism did to disabled people?

Guy is a closeted homosexal that hates himself so much that he wants to kill all gay people. We need to treat him like the threat he is and remove him from office.

I realize this is probably problematic… but maybe we should mandate weekly therapy sessions for all lawmakers. you know. with the power to put them on hiatus while they sort out their crazy. FTA:

Rolling Stone reports that Johnson thanked the organization for not letting journalists in. “I’ll tell you a secret,” he said, “since media is not here.” God had spoken to him throughout Republicans’ weekslong effort to find a new Speaker, Johnson said. Eventually, God revealed to Johnson that he would be a Moses-like figure leading the GOP and the country through a “Red Sea moment.”

Edit: From the Rolling Stones article:

“The Lord began to wake me up, through this three-week process, in the middle of night to speak to me,” Johnson insisted. “Now at the time,” he continued, “I assumed the Lord is going to choose a new Moses.” But because of his own lesser rank among the GOP’s leadership, Johnson said, he believed the heavenly message to be: “You’re gonna allow me to be Aaron to Moses,” citing the role of the Old Testament prophet’s brother and biblical sidekick.

But then Johnson watched as candidate after candidate failed to generate the necessary Republican support to win the Speakership. “Ultimately 13 people ran for the post. And the Lord kept telling me to, ‘Wait, wait, wait,’” Johnson recalled. “So I waited, I waited. And then at the end … the Lord said, ‘Now step forward.’” Johnson regaled the audience with his surprise to be tapped as the Moses figure: “Me?” Johnson said. “I’m supposed to be Aaron.” But that was not the message, Johnson insisted, recalling: “‘No,’ the Lord said, ‘Step forward.’” … The Speaker then underscored his pessimism about the state of the nation, asserting that America is facing the “greatest collection of challenges since maybe World War II, maybe the Civil War.”

Yeah, because this dipshit is gonna help start the second civil war…

They would just go to Christian therapists, who would only add fuel to the fire and bolster these kinds of delusions.

Good point. So. Like APA vetted and credentialed psychiatrists?

Or something. I dunno. But if a voice in your head is telling you, you’re gonna be a prophet… we have another word for that.

He didn’t just compare himself to Moses. it wasn’t a metaphor. He literally thinks god has appointed him some mystical role to “save” America. Like, fuck off dude, we don’t want to be “saved” by you. Fuck no. What goes on in that head of his has no relation to objective reality.

If, uh, he starts leading Christian lawmakers on a hike to cross the rio grande and wander around the Chihuahuan desert…. Mexico can keep them.

      (Please?)

How many candidates over the years have been “chosen” by their god to run for office?
