How are you going to set fields up as the problem when every play was him passing behind the line of scrimmage? Dude literally had barely any intermediate, ‘read the field’ kinda plays. Just screen, run, screen for every set of downs tonight

Because we watch the games and see that whenever he is given intermediate, “read the field” kinda plays he either sits in the pocket for 4 seconds before rolling out and throwing away, dumps it off to a running back for 2 yards, or rushes for 6 yards (its 3rd and 10 and Mooney is open 20 yards downfields). Then becomes more of an offensive threat for the opposition as soon as the 4th quarter hits.

Getsy needs to go, but its disingenous to act like the neutered playcalling isn’t in part influenced by the lack of faith Fields has shown should be placed in him.

or rushes for 6 yards (its 3rd and 10 and Mooney is open 20 yards downfields).

It’s ironic cause last night was arguably Fields’ best night so far at reacting to pressure and making scrambling of off cadence throws. When scrambling he consistently kept his eyes downfield and manipulated defenders into uncovering a receiver downfield instead of settling for tucking it and running it

It’s never his fault, is it?

At what point can we judge who he is? How many 4th quarter int or fumbles do we need to see? How many drive killing 15 yard sacks?

What are you seeing that everyone else isn’t?

This entire game was the vikings daring the Bears to throw it into open spaces vacated by alignments or blitz yet there was no calls made by getsy. Even then Fields consistently knew where his out was depending on the timing of the blitz.

His throwing looked more fluid while he was settled in the pocket while reacting to pressure. The few times he had happy feet, he didn’t just stand and jitter like before but instead would move the pocket and reset to throw. He was just sensing pressure markedly better imo compared to earlier this year i.e. the Bucs game.

This is the main issue of this argument. We have to be able to properly understand both Fields and Getsy are issues. It is not just one or the other here.

Yes, Getsy has a horrible game plan and it was so bad that even Buck and Aikman were laughing out loud at the repeated failure of screen after screen after screen.

But that had zero impact upon Fields fumbling twice, on back to back drives in the 4th quarter with the game on the line. And those fumbles are 100% all on him, just like many of his other previous fumbles. He uses really bad technique when he runs the ball, and he’s careless with it in situations where ball security is priority #1.

He is fortunate that the defense was balling out, or last night would have been another loss in the division due to his inability to be clutch.

Think of it this way: if Getsy was fired tomorrow, and we brought in a new OC. Does that make Fields more clutch than he is now? Does it help solve his turnover problems? Does it remediate his concerning injury history? Does it make him a QB that can win solely from the pocket if needed?

Good things to consider when you’re evaluating the team, it isn’t just one or the other
