Just a reminder to the people saying to get MHJ and figure out the qb situation later just how little an all time great, if not the greatest wide receiver ever, has on winning if you don’t have a decent quarterback. As great as MHJ might be the return he offers isn’t even a fraction to as much as if Maye or Caleb end up being great or even just good. The potential return on investment is just too much to pass up with a qb draft this highly touted.

If the Bears have a top 2 pick they aren’t even going to consider MHJ, the only chance is if the Panthers drop to 3 or later where you consider him and then a qb later with our pick.

Yeah, but no one knows. It seems like a sure thing that MHJ will be an elite WR in the NFL, but no one truly knows. And unless Fields shows out the rest of the year, the Bears have to take a shot at a QB with a top pick.

You could say the exact same thing about any of the QBs at the top of the draft. The difference is that if we got MHJ it would likely come after we traded down in the draft which would also come with a huge haul of other assets. Having Williams or Maye on the team might be better than having fields and MHJ in a vacuum, but I really don’t think it would be better than having Fields, MHJ, likely a proven star player acquired in the trade, and whatever other picks we receive in the trade.

If the Bears make that decision, then I’ll be okay with it. But unless Fields shows more with the remaining games, they will be taking a QB. And if we hit on that QB, it could drastically turn this team around. It’s always a gamble, but the Bears haven’t taken many chances on a QB over the years. It’s why there’s always a question about the Bears QB. And right now, I just don’t see Fields taking us on a deep playoff run anytime soon. And if they trade back while getting MHJ, they will still need some luck hitting on the other picks. I’m not sold on any of the QBs coming out, but it feels like we need to take a shot on one.

The WRs taken inside the top 5 in the last 15 years were,

      • Chase

      • Davis

      • Cooper

      • Watkins

      • Blackmon

      • Green

Every one of them were thought to be long term elite WRs. So many other top 5 picks thought to be generational talents ended up being busts.

Most draft picks despite how good they were in college are not game changers.

The only reason to not take a chance on a QB is Fields is it.
