Washington (United States) (AFP) – A US Postal Service whistleblower has warned that millions of Americans could be prevented from receiving mail ballots ahead of November’s midterm elections because of a rushed, new system ordered by President Donald Trump and due for launch Tuesday.

The anonymous federal official alleges that the agency has continued developing the system despite court orders blocking key parts of Trump’s effort to impose new federal controls on voting by mail.

The disclosure, released Tuesday by Democratic US Senator Richard Blumenthal, describes the project as “secretive, rushed, chaotic, and fundamentally flawed” and warns that insufficient testing could lead to “catastrophic failure.”

Under the proposed system, state election authorities would upload lists of mail voters and identifying barcodes to a new federal portal.

Postal workers would then check samples from large batches of outgoing ballots against that information before accepting them for delivery.

The whistleblower alleges USPS has adopted a “zero-percent failure policy” under which an entire batch could be rejected if even one sampled barcode fails to scan or match the federal system.

That could mean that one problematic ballot in a mailing of 10,000 prevents the other 9,999 from being sent until the discrepancy is resolved and the batch re-checked.

“The apparently sloppy and rushed manner in which the federal ballot mail portal and supporting IT systems are being built poses significant risk,” said the official, who is represented by the nonprofit Whistleblower Aid.

“Potentially millions of American voters may not receive their mail-in ballot this election cycle in a timely manner, or at all,” the person said.

The disclosure said the system was built under constantly changing requirements and received only a fraction of the testing normally required for major information technology projects.

USPS had been working toward a September 1 launch, the whistleblower said.

The US as a whole fulfills all criteria to meet the description of “bastard” when you look back the last 70 years, starting with Vietnam, Iraq*2, Afghanistan, their meddling in South America and so on. If you skip the time frame from the 1920s to ca. the 1960s, you can also add the times of slavery and segregarion to it.

I feel only a little bit sorry for the small part of the US population that never wanted to engage with that shit (even these people benefited from US hegemony, but at least they didn’t actively put fuel in the fire).

But in my opinion the watershed moment for the US as a whole was when they adopted a civic religion - separation between state and church means nothing if the state itself becomes a belief system.

US citizens, prepare yourself to see your country reach autocracy levels equal to Russia. Anyone who believes they might become a target (or already is one) should thoroughly prepare an exit strategy.

Exit? I have looked into it and I do not have 10s of thousands of dollars. I have animals that rely on me. My retirement is tied up here. There are millions of US citizens in the same boat. Leaving is not an options for us. I really don’t know what to do but buy drygoods and hope to ride it out with the lesbians that live next door.

If the situation gets bad enough even fraternizing with the lesbians next door might be enough to label you a subversive element. If it comes to that (and that is the direction it is currently going - they are already designating left-leaning platforms as terrorists), your options might be “reeducation camp” or fleeing with what you can carry. The more you are prepared now, the better.

and you know only blue districts will be targeted, almost none will happen in red districts. plus they will also target this in swing areas the most. the fact that Dems dint have even acknowledge the 2024 election stealing means they know, and are complicit.

Wait wait wait… The thing people have discussed for months or years could be a thing?

Are people just not paying attention or…?

I don’t understand what people are focusing on when their freedom is at stake.

So, like, can I send for a mail-in ballot, and if it doesn’t arrive, go vote anyway, or does applying for the ballot preclude me from voting in person?

I’ve lived in two states which allow vote by mail, one exclusively, and I’ve always had options to vote either in person or dropping the ballot off at drop boxes or election offices. Also if USPS refuses to deliver the blank ballot to me, I can still go to election offices and get a ballot or vote in person, but it all depends on the state.
