You could argue they are number 2 behind San Francisco but that’s good company to be with.

It’s partly because teams are just passing against us so they dont really need to run the ball, the run defense is still better but it’s not really a top 3 defense in reality since the stats are somewhat misleading p

If the Bears end up with 6-7 wins I fully believe we will keep Eberflus. I hate to be that guy, but I hope we don’t get to 6 wins lol.

My one offseason prediction I was pretty confident in was that our DL additions would see us improve off an awful 2022 rush defense. Not really tooting my own horn here because we replaced guys who were genuinely bad at run defense like Pennel and Watts with guys who grade highly in that area like Billings and Walker.

It’s a small win, but I’ll take it for this team. We needed to get better at nearly everything and we’re starting to get better at some things.

Eberflus is a good defensive coordinator like he displayed in Indianapolis but he isn’t a good head coach. Josh McDaniels always seemed like a decent OC in NE whether it be bc of Brady or not, but he was a terrible HC. Same thing with a guy like Matt Patricia, there were some very good patriot defenses under him but he was a terrible coach for the Lions.

The takeaway here is that just because someone is a great coordinator doesn’t mean they can steer the ship properly. That being said, the Bears should go for a somewhat experienced offensive minded coach who has had play calling experience before, not like Nagy and Getsy who were basically new to play calling when they arrived in Chicago

I keep hearing this stat and it’s a good one… I want to see what the pass defense looks like over the next 6 weeks. It’s easy to not run the ball when you don’t get sacks and have all day to throw. Last night was better but it’s hard to assess how good it is against a legit offense. Let’s see what the total defense does against detroit, then we can talk about “improvements”

We’ve only got one of the best rush defenses because everyone (except the Giants) seen intent on trying to pass, whether they can or not
