I always thought a skull would work better as a cup if it was upside down, with the Foramen magnum up.
I guess it could be cut at the top though and used as a cup/bowl holder, maybe that is what this pic is showing.

If I had a penny for every Bulgarian ruler that took the skull of a Byzantine emperor and turned it into a drinking cup, I’d have two pennies…
