Not sure I consider him “traditional art,” but I’ve always loved Wilson. He was probably my favorite cartoonist growing up.

From the date I was thinking Vietnam, but with the ruined city on the horizon maybe it’s about mutually assured destruction / nuclear war.

I read it more as a political win that ends in destruction isn’t a win for the grunt on the ground.
America likes to say they won the vietnam war, when in fact they lost. Thats the joke here.
