A federal court has upheld the new congressional map approved by California voters last month, giving Democrats a chance to counter the nationwide redistricting effort led by President Trump and his Republican allies.

The court challenge to the redistricting plan had been brought by the California Republican Party and the U.S. Department of Justice. The court found that the new district map did not violate laws against racial gerrymandering.

The Republicans argued that the new map was motivated by a desire to increase the voting power of Latinos. The court, in a two-to-one ruling, rejected that claim, noting that voters approved the measure, called “Proposition 50” and there was no evidence they acted on racial grounds.

Because they always do. It’s why Republicans have fought so hard to gain full control of it. None of the lesser courts matter anymore

I could have sworn they already did a couple months ago, stating it was too close to the election or something? Maybe I misunderstood.

They fall back to the Purcell principle when it’s convenient and didn’t get involved in Texas redistricting a full year before the next election, but when California does the same thing (via the legal avenues) all of a sudden it’s not too close to an election and they’ll likely mess with California’s redistricting. I despise the corruption of the court, but they could at least have the decency of keeping the corruption consistent.

They don’t need to be consistent. They know they’re corrupt and in charge and totally expect you to do nothing about it.

I think they pocket-affirmed the Texas map that had been blocked by a Reagan appointee.

It shouldn’t be a matter for SCOTUS. This is a state matter and states control their elections.

Doesn’t matter anymore. Trump is starting WW3 over Greenland now, there will not be any further elections in the US.

We’ve never cancelled elections, not even during the Civil War or WW2. That is a Bright Red Line that they cannot be allowed to cross under ANY circumstances.

We have to understand on a national basis, that suspending elections is the OFFICIAL end to American Democracy, we are in a state of anarchy, and we are no longer obligated to follow government policies or laws. It is instant Civil War, and all MAGAs become mortal enemies, especially government authorities of all types.
