One Democrat, Sen. John Fetterman (Pa.), said the U.S. would “ideally” purchase it as it did the Louisiana Territory in 1803 and Alaska in 1867.

Calling him a democrat is fucking bold.

It worked so well for Fetterman, Kyle Langford is gonna try it. He’s floated soundbites last year about how migrant women should be required to marry for citizenship and how auschwitz 2.0 will solve unemployment, but now he’s running for congress as a Dem and has shinied up his page to look progressive.

Forget that Socialist Medicine, we’ll give you some good Capitalist Medicine, from a really profitable company, at a discount, if you make two dozen phone calls over the next two years.

        And there’s a $6000 deductible.

I would say “practically” or “virtually”. It can’t possibly be “literally” free or medical professionals wouldn’t make money.

It’s not “literally” free because you pay taxes for that to happen.

However, Americans also have a lot of tax money go to healthcare and they still have to pay astronomical bills when they actually visit the doctors so basically they’re paying twice while most of the rest of us only have to pay the taxes bit.

Everyone will have to pay taxes eventually unless they plan on dying before adulthood or are born into wealth.

Hell, in my country if you’re willingly unemployed (i.e not employed, not registered as unemployed, not in education, not retired, etc) , you don’t get free healthcare. So if you’re born into wealth and don’t wanna pay at least minimum wage worth of taxes, you have to pay a subscription plan to get coverage, or pay out of pocket for everything.

Basically, ain’t no free healthcare here without contributing to it. Or at least having the expectation of contributing to it if you’re a minor. You can of course escape the country and work elsewhere all your life having already received the benefits of the healthcare system in your formative years. But that’s few enough people that the system can eat that cost.

These taxes also include your pension and social security.

A robot abdominal operation that costs 80000 dollars in the states, is 130 euros here.

Health insurance fund for a family of 3 you pay 144 euros per year

Oh it’s comparatively way cheaper, I know.

No idea where health insurance fund can be 144 per year for 3 people though, unless there’s part of it coming from your other taxes. AFAIK over a third of the social tax here in Estonia goes to healthcare and that’s a 33% tax on top of your pre-tax salary, paid by your employer. Yes, that’s right, your pre-tax salary isn’t what you actually cost to your employer. Adds up to about 8k EUR per year for mean income.

I’m just saying it’s not free. It can never be free. Doctors and nurses need to be paid after all. The system is just significantly cheaper than what the USians have going for them AND you don’t get shock prices for your treatments, so it’s a double victory.

And do you consider the service of firefighters to be free, or to be “practically free”. What do you think the point of this distinction is?

Most industrialized nations have some kind of universal care which is free AT POINT OF USE to those using it.

Quite obviously doctors don’t work for free, did you think that was a good point to make?

Yeah genius, it is. Taxes pay for it, we pay taxes. Not fucking difficult.

You cannot possibly say it’s “literally” free.

Crap. I had to read this twice since apparently I’m no longer able to distinguish sarcasm / irony from reality.
