The New Year brings a new list of legislative issues to address, including a funding deadline, a fight over Obamacare, a war powers debate, a stock trading ban and rules for AI and privacy.

The House and the Senate are scheduled to return this week after the holidays and confront a growing list of tasks and potential agenda items in early 2026.

Top of mind for many is President Donald Trump’s decision over the weekend to launch strikes in Venezuela and capture leader Nicolás Maduro, in addition to his assertion that the U.S. will “run” the country for the foreseeable future.

It’ll add to an already substantial to-do list for Congress in the early part of the year as November’s midterm elections draw closer.

So they’re going to have Maduro under armed guard in a courtroom before Congress even starts the discussion about whether or not they’re allowed to do any of this, super cool super legitimate government stuff going on here /s

Also, I’m pretty sure this is like their sixth “attempt” at banning insider trading, kinda makes you wonder if our lawmakers’ hearts are in it

I wonder if they’re going to Epstein the man. You know, for old time sake, because that’s a major motivation for the distraction from the files.

Given the regime’s track record in court thus far, that’s probably a safer bet for them than actually letting things get to trial. Can you imagine if Maduro got acquitted?

He’d get acquitted but then still executed/“commit suicide” anyway. Saying it now, Maduro didn’t kill himself.

Wake me up when this Republican administration regime actually follows a court order or faces consequences of their actions

I wonder if they will use this as leverage for next budget.

“Let us send military to Venezuela and greenland or no more snap, medicaid, medicare, social security, etc”.

A laser beam starts cutting your ship apart so you start noticing how things inside start splitting apart…oh no! The TV, the toilet, the kitchen table!

Everyone is focused on keeping the beer bottles intact.

Meanwhile the laser keeps slicing away.
