politics @lemmy.world•Elon Musk: The FDNY veteran who worked 9/11 and Covid isn’t qualified to lead the department
43·2 天前Can confirm first hand the FSD is actually working decently, my musk-fanboy brother-in-law showed it off at Christmas. Kudos to the engineers involved, must be easier when muskrat is distracted so they can actually get work done. Still needs proper regulation and Musk out before I’d purchase one though.
IIRC, Tesla and SpaceX had people dedicated to distracting/minding him so they could get actual work done. Can’t find source at moment, if anyone can link I’d appreciate it.

The siren call of always being right, being vindicated, being praised, etc that is like crack to our social brains.

15·1 个月前IIRC, the person who popularised the term ‘godwins law’, has come out to say comparing Trump to Nazi leadership is not a violation, as it’s comparing apples to apples, not hyperbole or strawman argument.
Edit, Godwin himself said it’s appropriate to compare the two

Though I think he would care about competency in the field of ‘kissing his ass’ among sycophants and those that use him.

1·2 个月前Can easily believe that, though can not confirm.
So much has happened, and this regime is not even a year old. . .
“May you live interesting times” is a curse we are all suffering through.

10·2 个月前I just. . . I don’t understand the internal logic. How can one get the cause-effect relationship so mixed up. . .
I mean I know the answer, fox news and similar propaganda, but the dichotomy hurts my brain.
Still happens, look at Russian MOD claims.

politics @lemmy.world•‘REPORT TO WORK IMMEDIATELY’: Trump threatens to replace absent air traffic controllers with ‘true Patriots’
168·2 个月前The training and requirements to be an ATC are insane, in a extremely thorough way. I highly doubt the Republican administration would be able to find competent replacements among their ‘patriots’.
That said, I doubt further that they would actually care and not just tell people to eat cake, or just privatize the ATC network to some billionaire.

9·2 个月前Unfortunately, Budapest is in Hungary, i.e. Putin fan Orbin’s country.
It absolutely does, cogs in the meat grinder.
That said, It brings everyone down to that level.
With guns, the mightiest general can still be killed by a lucky private. In most fantasy worlds, that would be near impossible for a basic untrained person to be a threat to a skilled warrior or mage.
And you are right, in the US there are an insane amount of gun deaths from murder, suicides, and accidents. Too many of us treat them like toys or emotional support Glocks, use them to be their masculinity.
Well, if it’s a shaped explosion round, aka HEAT, then it ‘forges’ a jet of molten copper upon detonation, that is what ‘cuts’ though armor plate. Pedantic, yes. Technically not forged by human hands, also yes.
I think it’s the ‘equalizer’ aspect. A knight would have to train for years to be proficient in swordplay, horse riding, and usage of a lance. Longbowman had to train from childhood. A wizard has to study magic for years.
A peasant could pick up a gun and theoretically kill any of them.
Americans in general are also more familiar with guns than swords or bows, so the “effectiveness” is more intuitive for our minds.

World News@lemmy.world•Russia ready for 'hot confrontation' with Europe at any moment, German intelligence head warnsEnglish
21·3 个月前Saddest part is his grand strategy is literally open source, i.e. “Foundations of Geopolitics”, written by a Russian ultra nationalist, taught in Russian military academy’s. Main points are weakening NATO and US by supporting internal strife and divisions, allowing Russia to take back its “land” and sphere of influence.
Top many willing useful idiots for them to use. . .

World News@lemmy.world•Russia ready for 'hot confrontation' with Europe at any moment, German intelligence head warnsEnglish
16·3 个月前Ready to fuck around. Not ready to find out.
Threatening and posturing to destabilize Europe and NATO, while going heavily on grey zone warfare and divisive misinformation campaigns. At the top, should not want any kinetic warfare against NATO, but rhetoric, ‘yes’ men, and arrogance may make some think they can and should.

You would be right, if the Republican administration actually followed rule of law. How many major court cases have they lost, yet continued doing that they were sued/charged over? I’ve lost count. The laws are not being Enforced, because the enforcement is the task of the Executive branch, i.e. the presidency and departments (FBI, NSA, DOD, DHS, etc). In previous administrations, the non partisan federal employees would enforce the law with either party in the Whitehouse, but with this current Republican administration and it’s purge of federal workforce and replacing non-partisan positions with political appointees, as explicitly called for in Project 2025.
