The Israeli government has not confirmed the specific claim that Hamas attackers beheaded babies during the attack on Saturday, contradicting an earlier statement by the Prime Minister’s office. An Israeli official stated that while there have been cases of Hamas militants committing brutal acts, they cannot confirm the identity of the victims, such as whether they were children, soldiers, or civilians. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had indicated the beheadings occurred, but his office later released photos showing burned bodies without specifying their ages. Explosive allegations about decapitated children emerged earlier in Israeli media, and the Israel Defense Forces described the scene as a “massacre.” However, Hamas denied the allegations, and CNN could not independently verify the claims.

I honestly never really understood the term Zionism I looked it up and got:

n 1: a policy for establishing and developing a national
             homeland for Jews in Palestine

So does that mean an anti-Zionist doesn’t want Israel to exist, where a Zionist says Israel should exist?

Just like “communist” states don’t actually practice communism, the term “Zionist” has become conflated with Israeli colonialism in Palestine. The dictionary definition no longer matches the common usage of the word.

Seems that there should be pretty clear definitions when lobbing bombs, literally or metaphorically, at each other. I’ll just continue to stay away from the term I guess.

Probably best. Many of these -ism terms become so overloaded with various meanings they can be used to mean whatever. Better to express yourself unambiguously.

“Genocide” is weirdly a simultaneously less loaded and more powerful word, and that’s what’s happening, so that’s what I’d use.

Once again, morphology takes a hit from the semi-literate and reactive masses, not unlike “literally”, “decimate”, “low-key”, et al. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Depending on how Zionist you are, all of Palestine belonging to Jews becomes a thing. You can see why people would oppose that.

Pretty much. Zionist believe that Jews should have their own homeland, and that homeland should be Israel. Anti-zionists would argue they either shouldn’t have Israel, or shouldn’t have a homeland at all depending on how far down the rabbit hole they’ve gone.

“Antizionism” is a made-up term to mask one’s antisemitism. An antisemite cannot today say that they want Jewish people to cease to exist, they’d love to be able to say it but they just can’t, so he/she will instead adopt another banner that’s being made more and more acceptable by mainstream media: “antizionism”. It’s technically less “extreme” (in the sense that it doesn’t target an entire ethnicity anymore, at least on paper), but it’s still evil and it’s basically saying that either 1- Israel should be destroyed or 2- Israel should cease to exist by making all Israelis leave their country. It’s the tankies’ favorite term too.

It’s one of many disgusting play with words that mainstream media is feeding us with. Just like we are made to say “pro-life” instead of simply “antiabortionist”, because words have power. When those people are saying that they’re “pro-life” they start feeling good about themselves, and they don’t feel like they are taking something away from someone, unlike “antiabortionist”, while both actually mean the same. That’s exactly the same with “antizionism” and antisemitism.

So Jewish anti-Zionists are just self-hating antisemites then? Would you rather people call themselves ‘anti-Israel?’ I can support the Jewish people and also believe that it was wrong to unilaterally force a people out of their home, force them into small territories and bomb them for decades.

2- Israel should cease to exist by making all Israelis leave their country

Why is the only solution a mass displacement or genocide? ‘Zion’ and ‘Israel’ are constructs, like all nation-states, a new political paradigm can be created without another Nakba or Holocaust.

Because people who argue in bad faith love to create false dichotomies.

Just because you think it was a bad idea for the UN to drop a group among an already established population that didn’t ask for it, and force them from their land (Nakba ) that they’d been on for generations; doesn’t make you anti-Semitic.
