New polls have our marxist party as the fourth largest in Flanders and third largest in Wallonia. We’re also the only party still growing with the rest decreasing in popularity. And we ain’t stopping bby

I cannot spend more than 15 minutes with friends or family without hearing liberal propaganda. I just heard my friend and step dad going on about how the protestor who got shot at cop city had it coming. 💀

Dude the footage coming out of Ukraine the last couple days has to be some of the worst in the entire war. The UAF is just getting slaughtered by all kinds of arms. Russian firepower and the degredation of UAF capabilities there make for something truly disgusting

I mean I don’t blame them, some of those videos are horrendous and they aren’t even fighting over the actual prepared defensive lines, they’re still on the contact line. This is probably far from over, but so far this is just sad to watch and I don’t mean that in a derogatory way at all

A while ago Belgium’s biggest supermarket chain, who has been in fights with their employees for months now, issued a ban on striking which effectively put their workers in a stranglehold.

The Union (my future employer, yay,) has fought this ban in each State and judges in the first one agreed with them, effectively reversing the ban on striking. This is a huge win for the workers ✊🏼 but the fight is not over yet.

In a rare moment of honesty, Dutch media are now reporting that the Americans knew that Ukraine was going to blow up Nord Stream. Well, honesty is not really accurate. They are blaming a rogue Ukrainian force and the US and Zelensky couldn’t do anything. But at least Russia is not in the wrong according to them.

Currently I am planning on making a thread about how the Empire of Japan suppressed homosexuality, a subject about which not even Wikipedia has much to say. There is (unsurprisingly) little literature on this topic.

I did find a book titled Queer Japan from the Pacific War to the Internet Age which has a chapter on this, but it deviates a lot… sometimes in sickening directions:

    [Disturbing excerpt]

The reference to the public toilet is significant, it being a common metaphor for brothels, which were understood as places where men could evacuate their excess desire. Indeed, the term “hygienic public bathroom” was a euphemism sometimes used to describe comfort women by Japanese soldiers (Shin and Cho 1996: 53)—“hygienic” because, unlike unsupervised prostitutes, the military enforced a strict health code on brothel workers so as to prevent the spread of venereal disease. Soldiers were thus encouraged to think of the bodies of prostitutes as little more than “semen toilets”.

I don’t mean to compare atrocities, but this is the same kind of feeling that I suffered when I saw a preview of the film The Grey Zone, which reenacted an Axis vehicle dumping a literal truckload of human ash on the ground.

I need another break from studying; this is fucking sick.

To get some positive but very local news: Antwerp’s chapter of our party had two good victories this week!

We managed, through action, to keep a bus line in the city running.

We also, after two years of action, managed to ban a new, elite Maritime Campus high rise from being build in one of the city’s green areas.

This was all done through campaigning, petitions, visits to people living in the area etc.

Excellent work! Gotta ask about the bus line - were the authorities planning on closing it? Removing the buses?

Yes the government is planning to cancel 5000 stops in the country. This line was part of the plan as well, but through local action the plan for this line got cancelled. So while this one line is saved, many others are still facing problems. The fight continues.

5000 is a pretty dang large number. What are the given reasons for this? The usual “it’s not economically valid” (aka unprofitable in short term)?

Why do libs and anarchos always have to play the semantics game man, it’s so fucking obtuse and annoying

elaborate point how Western imperialism exploits and underdevelops the global south

uhm wow, can we not use language like underdeveloped please, that’s so problematic

Their productive forces are literally less developed, their mode of production is literally less developed, it’s a technical term not a normative statement about the worth of the people living in those countries or even those countries broadly. Also thanks for derailing the conversation about imperialism

Idealism, would be my guess. Remember that quote about “changing names of things to change things themselves”? Words are essentially magic to them. It’s not cracking down on protesters, it’s “enforcing public order”. It’s not using drones to indiscriminately murder people in the other side of the world, it’s “employing cutting edge technology to defend against terrorism”, and also the pilot is a woman, you bigot!

Their productive forces are literally less developed, their mode of production is literally less developed, it’s a technical term not a normative statement about the worth of the people living in those countries

And now time to catch some flack from the comrades. Try using this term to describe the native Americans during the colonization. If you feel your eyebrows furrowing at me - the productive forces of the Iroquois, or Hurons, or Odjibwe were, last I checked, less developed than those of western Europe.
