informal anecdotal data gathering

  1. Do you regularly consume a CBD-containing product (Marijuana, CBD oil, medical marijuana, etc) Please be specific about strain

  2. Have you been infected by COVID, how long did it last, and what were your symptoms?

I’ll go first:

  1. No
  2. Yes, in March 2020, it lasted a month to a year depending on where you draw the line between long-COVID and acute COVID. Symptoms were fatigue, chills, high heartbeat, and a lower quantity of pee

    1. Yes, mostly sativa flower smoked from a bong

    2. No, to the best of my knowledge. I won’t ignore the possibility I had an asymptomatic case, but I’ve never tested positive for covid

    Yeah I weed

No I haven’t gotten covid. At least not symptomatically. Although I had the privilege of being reclusive for most of the pandemic, and now I work outside in no small part so I can avoid it.

Yes I smoke. usually bong rips or smoking joints.

Yes I’ve had COVID once that I’m aware of. Completely possible I’ve had it multiple times and just didn’t notice, but I do have one confirmed case. Lasted a few days, thanks to the miracle drug that is paxlovid.

    1. Prior to November 2023 I had been sober since the start of COVID. Since then I mostly vape dry bud. I pick up a new strain every time I buy an ounce, usually every 5-6 weeks. Northern Lights in the strain I’m vaping now. I also buy edibles every now and then.

    2. So far I have yet to catch COVID. I get the vaccines as soon as possible and rarely leave the house.

1: yes, generally sativa dom. flower/dab carts. strain varies. generally higher tch content.

2: yes once in 2023, symptoms about a month. general cold like symptoms, sore throat, productive cough, night sweats, didn’t feel extremely feverish or nauseous.

    1. yes, no specific strains as i use a variety based on the best price-per-THC-content i can get, mostly flower but there were periods where i used vapes instead.
    2. i’ve had COVID twice, roughly a year apart, each time lasted about 1-2 weeks, i had fatigue, mucus overproduction, muscular weakness, fever and sweating, and my mental state seemed more fragile or ‘loopy’, i had to keep myself distracted and focused on the moment more than usual with constant conscious effort. i haven’t noticed any distinct long covid symptoms.

    1. i prefer type 2s (roughly 50/50 thc/cbd strains) or type 1s with added cbd kief/hash. a wide variety of strains
    2. never tested positive (or tested at all, we had only 1 test kit at the time) but am nearly sure i was an asympotomatic vector because my entire workplace came down with it, and my partner who was isolating at home on unemployment later tested positive. i had about 12 hours of a headache and feeling off.

    1. No, but I very occasionally smoke THCA flower. Usually indica or indica heavy hybrid, maybe once a month

    2. Never had COVID. I test every two weeks and if I get any sort of sickness symptoms I’ll test immediately. I take lots of little precautions to reduce my risk as well. I mask in indoor public spaces, have a HEPA filter at home, use hand sanitizer frequently, I use Iota Carageenan nasal spray before leaving the house, and I use CPC mouthwash in the morning. I also don’t drink alcohol. Idk how much any of these things do individually but together they’ve kept me from getting it this far. And ofc I’ve gotten every vaccine the moment it’s offered

I’ve been curious recently about the research regarding CBD and reduced risk of COVID infection. If the results I’ve seen recently can get reproduced I’d definitely look into adding CBD to my toolbox. Thanks for doing this poll as well, its interesting data to have

For the first 2 years of covid:

    1. Yes, CBD gummies, unknown strain and the occasional delta-8 wax that claimed to be indica.
    2. Yes twice, mild shortness of breath for a day and then returned to normal function.

Since I stopped smoking about 2 years ago:

    1. No
    2. Yes once, bedridden for 2 weeks, significant shortness of breath, still struggled pretty hard even on paxlovid. CBD after infection use did not improve symptoms.

Yes, typically hybrid or indica-dominant strains of marijuana. I can dig up some receipts if you want more specifics.
Yes, in February 2023. Acute effects lasted roughly 4-5 days, consisting of strong fatigue, fever, coughing, runny nose, body aches. Fever died down in about three days, then the fatigue lasted a little while longer, maybe 14 days all told.

    1. Yes. While I tend to lean towards larger THC:CBD ratios, I consume something with cbd in it daily. Most of the time, this is an edible with 30mg THC and 5mg CBD. I’m not sure what the variability of the dosage is, because the medical cannabis system in my state is fucked up and I don’t think every company is held to the same standards of instrumentation/protocol. I also vaporize flower, but I’m even less certain about dosage with that method because I titrate to the desired effects.

    2. To the best of my knowledge, no. Here are the limits to my (un)certainty in that statement:

While the institution employing me offered the service, I did 2 PCR tests per week (between late 2020 and early 2022). Since then, I have taken a sequence of rapid tests on the few occasions I’ve had symptoms. The only time I’ve felt really ill (and not just having a scratchy throat or stuffy nose, symptoms which also prompted rapid tests), I had conjunctivitis. I tested the discharge from my eyes, nose, and throat with mulitple rapid tests during that infection and all were negative. I’m extremely lucky that I was able to live reclusively for the early years of the pandemic, but I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if I had an asymptomatic infection at some point despite considerable caution.

    1. Yes, marijuana, whichever strain my dealer hands me.
    2. Twice, first time was general cold like symptoms and exhaustion around the middle of 2021, second was just mild cold like symptoms around the start of 2023.
