the recipe is, steep some home-grown sage leaves in pure grain alcohol (i used everclear) for four days, then mix with the same volume of basically simple syrup and bottle it. Freeze it for a week at least before consumption.
It’s so intensely herby, there’s almost a peppermint quality to it on the sip. Only your breath afterwards has the classic sage flavor/smell. It’s neon green when backlit. It gets you throwed if you drink more than a few slugs.

Mixing that half and half with the simple syrup thins it out visually and makes it palatable straight. The electric green look is just a result of backlight and the natural color of the sage pigment

I’m very surprised. Almost shocked. I’ve always assumed that any very dramatically colored liquor was made with an additive that created the color: food coloring, etc.

Yeah I am absolutely in the same boat. Two days into the sage/everclear infusion it was impossible to see through the jar because it was so dark and I didn’t even cut or tear the leaves - they were whole leaves plucked off a plant.
It’s something that pissed me off about The Walking Dead. Because modern civilization has ended - it’s DIY for everything. Why didn’t they have surprising DIY stuff? There’s a million things they could have shown - like naturally strongly colored liquor and a character saying “How’d you get the food coloring?” Instead the DIY thing I remember most is somebody made goat cheese. And - in a non-spoiler - it tasted like shit for a longtime before he figured things out.
This sounds absolutely wonderful, on its own or mixed with some seltzer and maybe a fruit of some sort.
