  • Reddit tried that before, they bought Alien Blue, and instead of improving it, they turned it into the monstrosity that we now know as the Official Reddit App.

Sometimes, when companies get too big, the C-level executives lose visibility about what the needs of the actual users are and instead, they focus their planning on increasing revenue, no matter what, Quarter after Quarter.

Buying another 3rd party app when they can keep using their shitty app to collect and sell user data to advertisers and marketers without spending more, makes sense to them in their twisted world, sadly.

  • Yes, i do. I just deleted my main account using the PowerDeleteSuite, I am (was) used to log in every morning. I will miss it, but it was inevitable; eventually, al social media platforms die off due to “enshittification”.

I hope for a long stay with Lemmy! I deleted Facebook in 2011, Twitter when Musk bought it, never jumped on Instagram, Tumblr or Tiktok. Stumbleupon for me died when the VCC capital forced the site to redirect to advertised pages. Popurls is now upstract.com, a shadow of its former self…oh well. I guess I am getting old and starting to yell at clouds LOL.

  • The API changes was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. I was on reddit right before the exodus from Digg, before that I used to go to Fark. So much has changed, it is sad to see it, but I guess it was inevitable. As companies grow their user base, they tend to start catering to a more generic (and bland) base and the higher ups demand never ending increase of revenue, quarter after quarter.

So many memories; great ones (Today you, tomorrow me), awful ones (Jolly Rancher), some weird ones (Waffles? Don’t You Mean Carrots?), etc. I only use old.reddit with RES on Librewolf on my PC, and Redreader and Stealth on Android (FOSS apps).

I am hoping to see Lemmy grow, I wish you all reddit refugees the best of luck!
