the problem is mobile, using browser there sucks
Try using wefwef.app It’s a great mobile browser friendly way to access Lemmy.
@atomWood @MaxElFantasma Recently renamed to Vger I think. https://vger.app
No it’s renamed to Voyager, vger is just the url
Ha, a Star Trek reference, I like it.
It’s a reference to the Voyager space program, which followed the Apollo space program. Apollo was the name of the reddit app for iOS that was very popular, and had many of the same features
And the URL vger is a reference to this.
That’s weird. I’m currently on Memmy, when I tap your link it stops at V , skipping ‘ger entirely. Though I ended up inside of Memory Alpha, all I got was:
V

@rbits you are absolutely correct. I edited my post but edits may not propagate to all servers
This is really great, thank you very much!
I like Jerboa, but I have two lemmy accounts, and this will be a great improvement for browsing my second account.
Jerboa switches back and forth between accounts pretty well, I’ve found.
I didn’t realize for some reason that I could do this ayyy
Oh, you’re totally right. I hadn’t noticed the change.
You can install Firefox Nightly and setup an addon collection on the FF website and use pretty much all desktop addons on your mobile Firefox browser. Then you can install TamperMonkey and search GreasyFork for custom usercripts that add enhancements to the website.
So, no, it’s not a problem.
Good advice but too smug for my taste. I give this post a C- and a downvote.
Thanks for the feedback.
Or, I could just hit download in the play store and sign in. It’s great you can do that. Not everyone wants to go through that effort though.
Or I could install Voyager and have a better user experience in 5 seconds. I love Firefox but the mobile experience is highly dependent on the care a site puts into their mobile site.
The solution is Linux Mobile, where browser becomes the only option as apps don’t tend to be available, but it’s a full fledged browser so it can use all the appropriate addons. Typing this from my PinePhone Pro with keyboard case, postmarketOS, LibreWolf with the same addon set that I have on my desktop and laptop because Firefox Sync keeps everything synced together.
I mean, Waydroid exists, and so do native Linux Lemmy apps.
True, but I was always an old.reddit user even when I used Reddit and Android (Firefox on Android). Now I use mlmym.org on my PinePhone. The experience is pretty much the same, except now I have a keyboard to type faster.
Heck, I’m even using Voyager on my “desktop setup” iPad!
PWA’s are the happy place in-between browser and app on mobile. Voyager is great, especially when installed as a PWA.
DuckDuckGo is magical.
I’m using memmy on iOS, it’s still on TestFlight: https://github.com/Memmy-App/memmy (click on “join the group”)
Memmy’s on the App Store now. It does still have a TestFlight if there are any spots available but the app store’s version is currently up to date.
Thanks, I didn’t know that 😃
Been real happy with Memmy. It’s getting closer to Apollo every day
Yeah just a few things different but overall the aesthetic is very pleasing. Took forever for me to figure out how to mark a comment as “read” to get rid of the badges (slide left).
I also really love the ability to pick a hex code for the accent color.
Working pretty decent already. I would absolutely love an optimized layout option for the iPad however.
I haven’t tried it on my iPad yet but that would be great
It does work it just has the same problem Apollo had that it just isn’t optimized … I really liked the way alienblue or narwhal looked on the iPad because it just used the extra space better instead of feeling like a scaled up phone.
On a side note … Reddit really expected all third party users to switch to their shitty app when it doesn’t have Tablet support after how many years?
Theres also an official release in the app store if you don’t want test flight version.
Another +1 for Memmy. It has been my Apollo replacement.
I have both Memmy and Mlem and I switch between them every time one releases an update to see who’s better.
I’ve tried Mlem on and off, but Memmy and Voyager run circles around it in functionality. I’m sure the developer drama didn’t help anything either. I do hope Mlem catches up, because more options are never a bad thing.
Wait, there was developer drama? I just saw a comment from the Mlem dev yesterday thanking the Memmy dev for helping with getting their app through some testflight issues.
Yes, first, the founder of the project suddenly left with no warning, and then the guy who took over locked everybody out shortly after that. The remaining developers had to jump through hoops so they could resume development of the app.
browser on pc, app on phone
I use Native Alpha to avoid apps on mobile
Edit: misspelling
Nah, apps are better. There aren’t any ads in the Lemmy apps I have installed on iOS, so uBlock Origin is irrelevant.
The UI is much better on apps in general.
Memmy on iOS is amazing and much better than using any browser.
Connect is at a stage where it could rival those now defunct mature 3PA Reddit apps
Using connect here too. Really enjoy using it.
Amen! Very happy with the app too :)
It has been fixed in v0.97
My only gripe is pinch zooming in on images/moving the image around backs me out of the image
Connect, feels closes to boost. Until we have boost
It will come out. It’s currently available to pre-register.
What? No. Lemmy web is clunky. Try an app bruh.
When your Phones 1.5GB of RAM are always 1.3GB full and your CPU almost always at 100%, because you are running Android 11 (LineageOS) on a Phone from almost 10 years ago, then Jerboa starts to be quite a bit faster than Fennec (especially with uBlock0)
I use wefwef.app/Voyager on FF. I don’t believe ublock does anything though since its not an Ad based service
Ublock will let you block just about anything, for instance if you’re seeing too many posts from a specific instance ex: @leddit.danmark.party, this filter will block the entire instance lemmy.world##.post-listing:has-text(@leddit.danmark.party)

Can’t save comments so replying to save this
If you click the 3 vertical dots, it should expand to reveal a star-icon option that’ll allow you to save the comment. To view saved comments, click on your username in the upper right, then profile. There should be a ‘Saved’ tab
One other helpful snippet that’ll let you filter out posts that link to wsj, twitter, youtube, etc… lemmy.world##a[href*=“wsj.com”]
I’m no ublock expert, but I’ve mostly tested these filters, so ymmv. If you run into any issues or need to tweak a filter please follow up so we can all share 😀
Ironic. Apps let you save comments lol
I’m using Memmy and I don’t see how to save them
Maybe that app hasn’t included it. Connect for Lemmy has it, though.
Ah thunder does let me save comments
uBlock Origin doesn’t do anything in this case, but it’s more of a general statement of my browsing setup
I’m using ublock to block large media elements when I’m running low on data :)
I’ve been switching between those two as well. Theres a couple features I prefer on wefwef but in general the memmy app seems smoother
I’ve tried Browser and also Apps, Lemmy feels better via apps imo
On mobile, I tried FFox and Chrome… Worked like garbage. I switched to Connect and I am happy now.
What exactly is the problem with browser. Do people just have a high expectation of a platform, or am I just too used to the browser experience?
I think it may be down to the UI, for example I preferred Relay for Reddit over the other offerings because the UI just felt more natural to me and that of course always going to be down to the individual user
I was using Connect until I have found that there are trackers(via DuckDuckGo app) in it from Facebook. Trackers are common in apps, but if there are options available which give same experience without trackers, I will choose those options.
Give wefwef.app a try in your mobile browser.
I will be the only person to agree and not suggest an app!
Unless there’s some fantastic game-changing functionality provided by the app, I’m fine with the webpage. I have a pi-hole at home that further enhances the “no ads” experience.
I didn’t use an app on reddit, either - old.reddit only! I left reddit and joined lemmy because fuck spez!
The gamechanging functionality for me was being able to log in. Mobile, desktop, whatever. I click login, use my credentials, it says “logged in” and then asks me to log in again and warns down the right side of the website that I’m not logged in.
Using an app, I can actually log the fuck in.
That’s fair. I’m definitely having to log in every couple days.
But I’m also not on Lemmy as often / continuously as I was on reddit. That’s been a nice change for me.
My personal preference is to use (preferably FLOSS) apps whenever possible. I just don’t like the experience of a browser trying to act like a native application. This goes for desktop and mobile.
It’ll never happen, but if there were a desktop lemmy app I would use it.
I know I’m (probably?) weird.
I just installed the lemmy instance that I use as a “web app” via my browser on PC so it just acts like an app.
The stock interface is garbage though. Need them apps to streamline the experience.
It’s pretty damn excellent for a stock UI, and blows reddit out of the water. With that said I use Jerboa
I use Voyager and old.lemmy
I’m also impressed with Jerboa.
Reddit webui is a really low bar though
That’s why I used RES
Does Lemmy have RES? Is it called RES (lol)?
Yup, mobile Firefox runs beautifully and has all the features of the desktop version. I don’t see a reason to get an app tbh.
