Trade-in has nothing to do with Applecare+. AC+ is an extended and expanded warranty service, trade-in is getting value for your old phone to put towards a new one - which model is up to you and you pay the difference.

If you have a better condition phone due to recent replacement, you might get a better trade in value but probably equals out with deductible.

  • Just put some clear packing tape over the whole back of the phone neatly and trimmed a bit over the sides, just to hold it together so you don’t get shards flaking off everywhere, and leave it in it’s case, until you decide to repair or upgrade or whatever.

Not likely to damage the phone further, more injury to yourself and obviously the phone is not water resistant anymore, so keep it dry.

  • Not so much looked over, it’s just out of normal case use for most users. But I also don’t see any harm in having more default options.

But anyway, you can use Zoom or Reduce White Point to achieve this dimmed display, with the latter being a bit easier, but both can be made very accessible with Accessibility Shortcut.

For the latter, go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and select Reduce White Point. Then go to Accessibility > Display & Text Size - then toggle Reduce White Point on, and set it to 100% or whatever level you require. Now you can just triple press the side button to toggle it on and off.

You can do the same with Zoom as well with Accessibility Shortcut, but with a few extra steps. You can even add both to Shortcut, and choose which one you want to use.

With Zoom, you can three finger triple tap the screen and toggle the filter there as well, with the popup menu.

  • It’s most likely compacted with lint, stopping the cable from inserting in all the way. It usually compacts right at the back. You can use a sturdy toothpick or blunt tweezers or a paperclip even to clear it. Use a spritz of IPA alcohol into the port to loosen it up first.

And the pins lie at different angles, it’s very easy to think you’re missing pins, when it’s just the light reflecting differently off them. They’re probably fine, it takes a lot to dislodge them. Again it’s probably just lint and debris buildup.

  • I’d go for the 15 personally. Selling points in order are USB-C port, USB-C accessories compatible and reverse charging, better battery life, lighter and more balanced in hand, back glass easier to repair, latest iPhone, slightly cheaper.

You don’t get promotion 120hz, always on display, telephoto lens. But the display on the base 15 and 15 plus feels smoother than 60hz to me, it’s actually quite nice but ymmv. AOD is useful if you can make use of it, but not a deal breaker imo. Lack of telephoto is situational, it’s probably the least used lens for most people though, and the 15 has great in sensor/crop zoom.

  • With the passcode or passphrase for the phone itself? No there’s not help for that.

But you can gain access to her Appleid account, with the correct documentation, certificates and court documents. You can contact Apple and they will tell you what is required. You can also ask them to check for legacy contact info.

And hopefully there is a recent backup on her account that you can restore from, or access on browser through iCloud etc, and preserve some photos, mementos, or other data.

    All the best.
