It’s a funny joke, but lets me real. Shran would probably win that fight.

I watched so much scifi on Netflix back in the day. It was really an end of an era moment when they lost Star Trek and Stargate.

It’s not fully accurate to lay the blame at the feet of Netflix. At the time, they just saw the writing on the wall and did what they had to do to survive. Their catalog was massive because, early on, no one thought streaming would work. They had a massive collection of shows and movies that didn’t pull enough of an audience to air on TV for ad revenue. Netflix was able to get a TON of long-term deals that they used to grow, but when those contracts were coming due, the rights holders pulled out and started trying to make their own services. At that point, Netflix basically had to become a studio and pivot to original content, or else they wouldn’t have content at all.
The long and the short of it is that because Netflix was first, it got to set the stage for the golden age of streaming, but because it worked, it was inevitable that streaming would become cable.
It’s not Netflix’s fault. It’s just the course of the entertainment business. They suck now, but back then, I couldn’t think of a single bad thing to say about them… well, maybe that they got rid of the 5-star rating system. That system was definitely used to get metrics for their early programming.
It does seem like the tech bros in power now saw those 80s dystopia movies and went, “yes. that.”
She’s angling to be my handler while I’m just angling to handle her.
I would honestly be surprised if America as we know it exists by that time. I hope whatever hell hole Elon runs off to has the foresight to just shoot him but I think even that is asking too much.

I think the mid-terms will be the moment that becomes clear to everyone here.

Agreed. I’m an American. I’m not going to sit here and pretend the country did things right in the world, but along with all the bad is the counter balance of the US dollar and world stabilization through world trade. It was economic diplomacy. Again, this is just a statement of observation and not an endorsement. We’re dead and we just don’t know it yet. Our world credibility is at an all time low, our military is depleted, our reserves are depleting, food scarcity is on the rise and our debt has balloon with the guardrails and safety nets that we spent 100 years developing being gutted and undermined.
I never thought I would see it in my lifetime. It’s devastating. I don’t say that asking for sympathy. I’ve seen enough of what happens on the world stage to understand that such things are deserved in one way or another.
I hope that in the history books, people will understand that no country is a monolith, and that our greatest failures on the whole was not malice but inaction as a response to our leaders’ complete disregard for our wishes.
shit, I think I spilled some VtM in my Sponge-bob.
Nah man, This here American just thinks we’re fucked.
I’m constantly thinking about how much we’ve domesticated ourselves over the last few hundred years.

The problem is that everyone’s internet experience is very different these days. Your friends might be boring and actually have nothing in their lives that need compartmentalized/obfuscated. It’s unlikely but not impossible.
The easiest way to demonstrate the problem would be when they show you something on an unprotected device you note the ads and give them shit for it. Those ads are likely targeted, and so your jabs would be targeted and personal too. Then point out that those ads are tied to THEM. Just ask every time, “have you been looking at X? Gross dude.” It doesn’t matter what it is. It’s the point that they are uncomfortable with your guess and it’s an opening to explain that, yeah it’s not just those ads buddy.

I’m not dying for rich people that got power and decided to break literally every stabilizing thing in geopolitics so that they could make more money and then start a war to cover it up.
I might die because of them, but there’s no way I’m dying for them. If they draft, I’m running. call me whatever you want.

I would not have enjoyed that. no.

I bet you could make it with some creamy peanut butter and grape jelly

I wish they would have had more articulate people in that group. Tim Pool’s arguments in general fall apart under logic. The civil war stance especially.
Everyone was so caught up in pointing out the authoritarian stuff going on under trump that none of them actually addressed his claim. He’s going to go back to his platform to keep doing the same thing he’s always done, but they gave him sound bites to feed his base.
Any civil war requires resources and logistics on two sides that can equally opose each other. I would have liked to see someone push back on how that happens in an authoritarian surveillance state. I’d even grant him ‘unrest,’ but civil wars are is pretty much impossible. It’s just a matter of logistics. No group can realistically organize to military readiness to challenge current regime. They’re purging the military, setting up a surveillance state, and have been recruiting by way of ICE at least. This says nothing of the military hardware and training that is held at the federal level.
I get it, he would have just cut in and used half truths but it’s hard to bullshit the obvious. Unless you’re screaming.
I couldn’t watch this all the way through. Maybe it’s a moderate thing that they couldn’t be more articulate. or maybe the 20 were just awful picks for this.

He’s married with a child.
That specific talking point is because he’s one of those obfuscated friends of nazis.
I wasn’t a fan myself. I resented the hell out of him for entering the race in 2020 and outing Bernie. I don’t like to talk about it much because it makes me seem like a Bernie bro but as far as I’m concerned the democratic establishment did everything they could to keep a socialist out of the whitehouse. The entire primary was political theater to dilute the socialist agenda and Biden only entered the race when it was clear that, even with his base split between him and warren, nothing was going to stop Sanders.
BUT, as someone who spent time in the trade unions I swallowed my pride and voted for Biden. I didn’t expect much, but I did expect a damn democrat to do what they always say they would do and support the union block.
2020 was the moment. It was the last time I actually thought we could turn things around. Ever since that primary I’ve just been waiting for us to go the way of the USSR.
Sisko punched Q once, and Q was so entertained that he didn’t do anything about it. Don’t play.
