  • It’s crazy. Some of Mahomes craziest throws ever have been dropped by receivers. If he doesn’t throw it perfectly, you have those armchair analysts saying ‘well he could have thrown a better ball’ to justify the receiver dropping it. However, when he does lead his receiver perfectly, they still drop the damn ball lmao. I legit feel like that int he had was because he feels like he has to put the ball right in his receiver’s chest or they will drop it. Sure he should have led Watson more, but it feels like over 50% of the throws he tries to lead his receivers with this year are either dropped or his receivers are not on the same page at all. Like the last drive. He leads Kelce on a throw and Kelce dropped it. His next two throws to Kelce, he just launched it right into his chest. The Chiefs’ receivers this year are allergic to reaching out and grabbing the ball. They all want to catch with their body. Basically all of their ‘catch radius’ is freaking shoulder to shoulder. Topple that with the abysmal separation rates, and you have a recipe for an ATROCIOUS receiving core.

  • People also need to realize how damn good Andrew Luck really was. Statistically, with a much worse team than Allen, Hurts, Burrow, and Mahomes, he was lighting it up. Dude had was throwing piss missiles 600+ times a year for half his career. That is nuts. That puts A LOT of pressure on your QB when they are having to drop back 37+ times on average every damn game. He averaged 4.5 more throws a game than Burrow (roughly 11% more throws). He averaged 5 more throws a game than Allen. He averaged .5 more throws a game than Mahomes. He had much worse teams than the three guys I just mentioned, and he was expected to still throw that much to keep the Colts competitive. That’s just wild. Also, it is worth noting that Burrow was on pace to be sacked damn near as much as he was in the 2019 season (with the same amount of dropbacks). I would argue their additions and changes to the offensive line have done NOTHING. Brown is just stealing money from them lmao. He also had less pocket time this year than any other year in his career. Some of that is offensive like play and some of that is Burrow getting rid of the ball quicker. Regardless how you want to view that, it still looks even worse for his o-line. Either they are worse than his 2019 offensive line OR Burrow is getting rid of the ball much quicker on his own and is still getting sacked at a damn near equal rate. He was also being blitzed at a much higher rate this year, which seemed to be working for the most part. He will probably be facing another blitz heavy season next year.
