Because he would have tucked and run anyway…and literally every defense knows that.

It says a lot when the coaches would rather lean on this defense to win the game than their qb. It’s clear the coaching staff does not trust Fields with the game on the line. I don’t blame them.
I don’t know about you all, but I’m all done trading up for UNC quarterbacks!! 🤨There are others like Bo Nix and Penix Jr who we can get at #4.
Trevor Lawrence is the pick because he wins the games that matter and elevates the play of his teammates. There is no metric on that sheet for that.
I can’t believe that so many people are still hung up on whether Fields is “the guy” or not. Simple answer is that he is not. In a perfect world, I would trade him for more draft capital, draft Bo Nix in the first round, and sign Kirk Cousins to a cheap one or two year contract because he’s old and currently on the gimp. You then have a guy who can get wins while Nix gets broken into the NFL, eventually have a stud backup, and a safety valve in Cousins if Nix ends up being a wash. The remaining draft picks to be used on defense and to solidify the O line. It’s either that or use up a ton of cap space on a proven free agent QB/trade (see how that went for NYJ and CLE). Time to part ways with Fields. He has had more than enough time to prove he’s a winner or not. We’ve been “rebuilding” for decades, and 2024 is an excellent draft class for QBs.
WHY is Fields warming up and catching the throwback ball especially if his thumb is hurt??? Big picture: never liked the guy in Chicago anyway. He is a stud athlete but a dum dum. Bo Nix should be a priority in the draft, Sweat should get resigned, and some D needs to come in on the free agent market this off season. GM Poles is sharp, and I hope he can convince ownership to invest some capital.
I’d like to know how many of those completions were to his first read.
