Humans do not achieve immortality. Some species do, like the beings in the Q continuum. There is also one “human?” in the original series who was apparently the first human to ever be immortal – he was just born that way, he didn’t know why. He went by several names over the centuries since his birth: DaVinci, Bach, Newton, and so on. Then at some point he left Earth and lived on planet all his own.
