Checking out Lemmy and looking to get my reddit subs here. Can’t deal with C-Suite greed ruining things any longer. Aside from our favorite companies and now reddit what other recent companies have you seen fall prey to short term gains?
Most major gaming companies really
Blizzard but they just can because people will always get a season pass to get a new hero. What PvE?
Holy crap the shit I heard friends talking about recent Blizz fuck ups and not the same company. Nearly everyone I know signed up for D4 without batting an eye. So much for showing them with your wallet. Oh wait that micro transaction store sure will.
Cancelling OW2 PvE mode was such a loss.
Almost every company ever. Most aren’t quite as public about it. A notable one would be when the world’s richest man bought a social media company, lost a bunch of money, and is trying to get people to pay for things that used to be included. So far I like lemmy thought. No risk of corporate overlords screwing us. The no ads is really nice. The userbase is still small and with multiple instances it can be a little intimidating for new people but I could see it becoming bigger.
The rate at which the communities, like PCMR, are being added is both astonishing and satisfying. Sadly, if things really do continue there are going to be bills to pay and server fires to fight and I hope the server owners get the support/funds/patience they need to carry the load.
Yeah it’ll be interesting to see as lemmy grows how costs will affect different deployments. I could definitely see larger deployments turning to ads to support cost. But at the same time Wikipedia is able to do it with minimal ads so there is always hope. An award system where you pay for awards like reddit had would be interesting but multiple deployments may make that more difficult to regulate.
Sonys new playstation handheld ‘project q’ looks to be a money grab after seeing the switch and steam deck make bank. It only streams from a ps5 so I see no use case other than to lock you into their ecosystem even more.
Let’s try to fill this sub and leave reddit for good. Because it didn’t exist yet I also did create /c/linuxmasterrace@feddit.de. So if you are a former r/linuxmasterrace member feel free to join.
First that comes to mine is twitch but they seem to have back pedal on their recent decision with the sponsors
Glad to see this community here. :)
