Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) argued it is “immoral” for Republicans to reject a border deal to help former President Trump.
“I didn’t come here to have the president as a boss or a candidate as a boss. I came here to pass good, solid policy,” Tillis said Thursday, first reported by NBC News. “It is immoral for me to think you looked the other way because you think this is the linchpin for President Trump to win.”
Members on both sides of the aisle are upset with Trump’s attempt to kill the border deal to deny President Biden a legislative win. His recent remarks calling for GOP members to oppose a border deal that isn’t H.R. 2 have complicated things for the Senate.
It’s good to see them breaking with Trump, but it is only because they haven’t done anything besides circle jerk the entire term and need something to show for the time.
A border deal is a good one for them because there are a lot of ways to spin it come their next election.
Agree. Especially since it disenfranchises people who’d vote against Trump.
Genuine question…how does it do that? People who come here and are undocumented are already not enfranchised
In the sense that giving the president the power to say, “fuck it. Shut it down completely” seems a bit fascist. I don’t think it incentivizes left leaning people to flock to the polls for Biden.
Ok, but it doesn’t seem to disenfranchise anyone is what I’m saying
It’s practically a gift to the GOP. It validates their complaints and offers their next president overreaching power to fuck with the border as they please. I hope they do vote it down.
Since when do GOP senators care about what’s “moral?”
Also “I came here to pass good, solid policy”.
Did he read that on a cereal box that morning?
AND YET, most GOP senators will vote party lines anyway.
Kissing the ring…
How long before one Senator just up and shoots another Senator? Anyone starting a pool? I know MTG and Boebert both conceal carry while on the floor.
It wouldn’t be unprecedented. We have already had one senator beat another half to death with a rather hefty cane.
Immoral and Trump go together
I didn’t vote for Tillis and I won’t, but every now and again, he does show that he has some decency in him.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) argued it is “immoral” for Republicans to reject a border deal to help former President Trump.
I came here to pass good, solid policy,” Tillis said Thursday, first reported by NBC News.
Members on both sides of the aisle are upset with Trump’s attempt to kill the border deal to deny President Biden a legislative win.
His recent remarks calling for GOP members to oppose a border deal that isn’t H.R.
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) called the effort to kill the bill “appalling.” Romney argued that there is an issue at the southern border and anyone running for president should be attempting to solve it now — instead of solving it later and taking credit for it down the road.
Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) has reportedly floated the idea of separating the border and Ukraine sections of Biden’s request, but others say McConnell will stand behind pairing the border aid with other foreign aid.

I don’t think any of them see it any differently. A good number of them don’t really care.
