@protonprivacy How about an option in the vpn-app to always activate a VPN whenever the device is not connected to certain wifis?

Maybe op has vpn at the router level and doesn’t need an extra vpn layer. Or uses the adblocking features so only needs it outside home

@EmperorHenry I didn’t say anything different but within my home network the whole network is behind a VPN so I don’t need single devices to use a VPN. But as soon as I leave my home network I want the device’s VPN to kick in.

Okay, that’s all well and good, but you should still use a VPN on all your devices even though your whole home network is going through a VPN. It’s like a multi-hop that way

@EmperorHenry but isn’t that like using two identical doorlocks with identical keys? I don’t think this would bring any security/protection related benefits but instead would slow down the single devices connection.

Every proton VPN connection has its own unique public and private keys. A new set is created with every new connection.

@EmperorHenry That would mean putting all eggs into one basket which IMHO is against all security/privacy logic. There is no benefit of using a VPN within a VPN under no circumstances. If you don’t trust the VPN and only feel better combining it with another VPN than don’t use it in the first place.

Agree. Proton is not only about SECURITY but about PRIVACY. ISPs usually collect data and sell it, governments and third parties use your data. I wouldn’t go out there without a VPN.
