The bears as a team including Fields had an abysmal start to the season, be it because of coaching or because of a lack of talent. In my opinion blame lies mostly with coaching, but this is a young roster with a lack of experience (which is why we are seeing this team improve on defense so much).

Then in week 4 something changed (for 3 quarters), the offense seemed to click and we put up great numbers. From week 4 till now, week 12, Justin has played some really good football. He misses some reads, sure, but if you look at every snap (which i have and sometimes this offense makes you want to poke your eyes out) he looks like a mostly good QB who needs to clean up some things, which in my opinion are coachable. In my opinion watching the games he has played after the meltdown in kansas, (excluding the vikins, because he got hurt and the offense as a whole was atrocious) he passes the eye test as a qb1.

He is going through his progressions, checking plays at the line (there is still a good amount of progression to be made here, but he is atleast servicable at this) and he is getting the ball out quicker. He is good at extending plays and when he gets out the pocket he is a pass first qb, which suprised me, because he is such a dynamic runner with the football. He can beat a team with his legs, has one of the best (if not the best) deepballs in the NFL and is starting to get better at the short and intermediate level.

Now for the people who don’t care about how somebody looks out on the field and want to look at statistics, here they are.

Passing 4 weeks: 1003 yards (250.75 ypg) 86/124 for 69.4% completed passes Passer rating of 114.42 (only 5 qb’s have a rating over 100 this season) 9 TD’s 1 INT

Rushing 4 weeks: 245 yards (61 ypg) 5.5 ypa 4 fumbles 3 fumbles lost

Season (17 games): 4263 passing yards 1041 rushing yards 69.4% complete 38 Td’s 4 ints 17 fumbles (13 lost)

So that would mean Justin would have 5304 total yards with 38 TD’s (which could be more if he gets some rushing TD’s which he hasn’t in these 4 weeks) 4 INT’s with 17 fumbles (lost 13). This would be a 9.5 : 1 TD/INT ratio and a 2.2 : 1 TD/TO ratio.

Don’t get me wrong Justin still has things he needs to work on (fumbles, reading defenses and throwinflg with anticipation), but if you 1) look at the tape, he is playing confident and going through his progressions more + adjustments and checks at the LOS, which he has improved upon since coming in the league 2) look at the statistics 3) look at the team (we are in a rebuild with guys who need time to develop and gel together). Justin has what it takes to be a top QB in this league, granted he needs to clean up the fumbles and shows more progression reading the defense, which he has done so far.

Would love to hear opinions on this and answer any questions that you might have (and let’s please keep it civil)

I’m really torn on JF1. Shows some great promise then looks bad. Holds the ball too long. Either no one open or he doesn’t see them. 49 turnovers in 35 games I heard on espn radio today. I also don’t think Getsy, Bears play caller/ offensive coordinator, does him any favors. My prediction is if the Bears get a top 2 pick, from Carolina, they take either Williams from USC or Maye from North Carolina. I’m truly torn. I don’t know what I would do if I was Ryan Poles Bears GM. I do believe either way we need a new head coach.

I’ve read that argument before. You need to judge the player not the uniform. Different coaching staff too. Maye has played 2 full seasons to Trubisky’s one. He’s bigger better arm etc.

This subs love fest for Fields is wild.

I think its a combination of never having a franchise QB, watching his splashy run plays & his overall likeability as a human.

I promise you…there is better out there than JF1. Is that Williams or Maye? Idk. But you have to try & improve from a guy who has won 7 games in three years & one 300 yd game in his career.

Youre asking these numb nuts to keep it civil? Lol I agree with you. I am a huge Justin Fields supporter and think he is our franchise QB. But you’re asking these negative bears fans what they think of Justin Fields. If he plays great they want him. Shoot even if he plays great and on the final snap of the game he fumbles and gets it back after a 300 yard game and 4tds, they immediately jump to drafting these crappy qbs coming out of college. Caleb Williams and Drake Maye are nothing and will be nothing in the NFL. Look those 2 qbs haven’t played great this year. Some games they look lost and if thats the case then why are we talking about them being so high on a draft board. We need to stick with Fields and ride it out 2 more years and see what this rebuild will look like once he’s in his 5th year option. The qbs in the draft are garbage and won’t produce in the NFL. Mark my words, maye and Williams will be another bryce young.

The civil part definitely didn’t show up. Personally i like fields and think he is good enough to win games. He has shown promise and progression so i think he could be great with a new coaching staff and another year.

However i also like the qb’s coming out this year, so if we end up drafting one of them i wouldn’t be upset. I get wanting to reset the clock, but then again trading down from no.1 and building up the roster is also really exciting. For me it is 60/40 on keeping fields or drafting a qb

I’m not ready to give up on Fields but I’m really close. Fields has one more year on his rookie contract if he plays the same as this year you have to get rid of him. You can’t end up paying a below average QB above average money. This might end up like Daniel Jones and the Giants if the Bears pay Fields big money.

Im in the same boat as you, i think the oocoming qb class is really good, so if we take a qb i won’t be upset at all. However, fields has shown promise and progression, so trading down from no.1 and building up this team is also a very exciting way to go (at least for me). Im not saying he is the one, just giving reasons and arguments as to why he could be and maybe deserves another season

Your justification is pretty meatball ngl, but I’m not out on Fields just yet. Give him another year with a new (hopefully competent) coaching staff and see what he can do. Imo we need to use this year’s assets to strengthen the rest of the roster, that way if we do need a new QB we’re giving them a good situation to come into.

Are we actually saying two consecutive coaches couldn’t develop Fields. Theres absolutely no way the bears don’t draft a QB. I dont care that there were 13 screen passes last game, he threw it 37times. We’ve seen plenty of games where he doesn’t deliver the ball to open players. When you’re bad, those open players make the difference. It can’t be well we had too many screen passes. Fields has to execute on everything. Enough games have been played, he can audible out of any play, he is auditioning and yes someone will absolutely be willing to trade for him.

The Bears would be complete idiots if they gave up on Fields. It’s really unfair to judge him off wins & losses considering his situation. In his rookie season he had an incompetent coach in Nagy who did everything in his power to make Justin unsuccessful just to prove a point. Last year, his first season starting he was on a team that had been completely gutted with absolutely no talent around him & this year they’ve been decimated by injuries up until the Detroit game & just started their rebuild by bringing in Montez Sweat. Luke Getsy is the biggest problem on this team. Ryan Poles stated this was a 2 to 3 year rebuild and it’s only into its first full year of it. They have Justin for at least one more season before they have to decide on a 5th year option & I’m willing to bet everything I own that after one more free agency & draft that Fields will lead this team to the playoffs. The Bears franchise needs to stop firing & rehiring GM’s and coaches and let this staff build their team! They gave Nagy 4 years and he was awful & only had one good year because of the defense that was left for him his rookie season as coach then he went backwards! These guys are only into year 2 and just beginning to show they know what they’re doing. Justin Fields needs to stay. If the Bears let him go it will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in franchise history.

O i got those plenty and then some, very few people actually backing up those statements with good arguments however
