Whenever I see a college player who’s mocked top 10 consider returning to school I think of Matt Barkley staying another year and fucking up his shoulder

Barkley was never going to be 1st or even 2nd overall in the same draft that Luck and RGIII were in.

I completely forgot that he was in the same draft as those two, I just remember him being very highly regarded

Shawn Oakman, the freak Baylor DE from 2015-2016. Had like 16 sacks and went back to school after being universally mocked in the top ten. Ended up with four sacks his next year and legal trouble that took him off every draft board.

The 3 TE formations made me feel paranoid and I can’t believe that shit continued into the Mariota years. And then ownership was so scarred, we changed OC every year during Mariota’s tenure. Someone needs to go to prison for that.

He missed like 30 million due to the rookie contract changes. Locker is a great example of why you go pro when you can.

He also had the quote “If I can’t be happy with $6 million then I’m doing something wrong” paraphrasing but money was never his motivation. He’s my all time favorite athlete. He was talked about this a few times and has said he wouldn’t trade giving UDub their first bowl win in a long long time for leaving early. He’s a country boy living in his hometown of Ferndale and has more than enough money to be happy. He’s the man.

There’s something to be said for the massive changes in your life going from college to the “real world”

Maybe Marvin really likes his college life and wants one more year of it before 10+ years of similar nfl life. They will likely all be great years for him I bet.

It always felt like justifying his choice with some regrets, but what do I know. Locker is a badass though, I actually watched college football for a few years bcuz of him.

No he knew what he was doing. It was the year that they were going away from those massive rookie contracts. So he already knew he was throwing money away.

Would be nice to hear that sort of thing more. Like when a player is insulted by a 200 million dollar contract because they want 220 million. Like at what point does it not make a difference anymore?

Ironically you can throw another USC QB in that mix with Leinart, guy was the sure fire #1 and stayed his Snr year the fell to 10, obviously not a drop like Barkley but still significant at the time.

Difference there is Leinart was trying to win a third straight national championship. I don’t think aiming for a third straight Peach Bowl appearance has the same pull.

Also, his QB is Kyle McCord.
