Feel like it would be way easier to just make OPOY a non-QB than create a second award. Given the nature of the sport, QB is always gonna be the most valuable position/player anyways, MVP is already basically a QB-only award. And we already have all-pro for the best at every position
By the nature of the position, QB is usually the most valuable player on any given team. There are some exceptions, but usually, a team can live or die based on the health of their QB. Take a team like the Vikings. They haven’t had Justin Jefferson, who is easily their actual best player. But people thought their season was officially done when Cousins got hurt…until they got Dobbs, who is playing really well.
I think at the very least, OPOY shouldn’t be the same player that won MVP except for very rare circumstances where a guy is just that good.
Not really. Aces have a very large impact on the game, but they only play 1 in every 5 games. Even then, it’s not as big of an impact, because bullpens are so important nowadays, so an Ace is only pitching for 2/3rds of the game. Baseball also tends to have a lot of pitching depth, because pitching injuries are really common, so teams are very prepared for it. Most teams have 7 or 8 guys in their organization that they’d be comfortable starting. Losing an ace is a big deal in the playoffs, but still nearly as drastic as losing your starting QB.
Or just make it so you can’t vote for the same player at both MVP and OPOY. Having two different QBs be MVP and OPOY is pretty rare and I think just making the voters look elsewhere for OPOY would give it to a non-QB much more frequently.

This is kind of how it feels sometimes.

I only casually watch baseball, but isn’t that how aces are viewed? The Ace of a team is on-par with a quality quarterback based on my understanding.
