It’s insane how people will use having short hair growing up as “evidence” that an AMAB person isn’t really trans—as if:
- They have any control over it
- Girls can’t prefer short hair
My parents completely shaved my head every summer regardless of how long it was and I remember crying every time.
When they finally gave me a choice over my hair in High School, I always grew it out and only trimmed it when they started making fun of how “shaggy” I looked.
I grew my hair as long as I was allowed to, getting it cut just inside the school rules (off the collar, eyebrows, and ears from K-8; off the collar and eyebrows from 9-12), for ages. I was bullied pretty relentlessly for it, mostly from adults. I eventually caved to the social pressure and cut it short, and hated it. I tried buzzing it and hated it even more. Had it short for probably around 8-10 years because I felt like I didn’t have any other choice.
And now it’s down past my shoulders, and I love it so much 🥰
gather round and watch me abuse my own child
what a dick
conservative parents tend to excel at that
I wish children’s autonomy was more respected generally. How horrible to do that to your own child over something like hair length.
My kid’s dad pressured him to cut his hair a couple summers back. It devastated my kid. He loves his hair long.
My parents always said I could do whatever I wanted with my hair if I didn’t do drugs or alcohol. It was a surprisingly healthy rule they had for me. Didn’t realize at the time why I liked having long hair, I always said it was something, something, I don’t like getting it cut. They did make me cut it (not short though) on occasion mostly because I was never taught to properly take care of my hair, so I did let it get a bit unkempt in the past.
I’m sorry your kid had to deal with that
<3 I take him to his preferred barber each time he wants a trim now to avoid anything like that happening again.
I hope you only have good hair days forever more :)
Thank you ❤️
I succumbed to social pressure before and the will of my father to cut them short. I always loved my long hair. They were long and beautiful when I started university (ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ.゚ Too bad I didn’t understand I was an egg.
This sucks that kids are being forced to cut their hair just because “it’s girly”. Despite my country and it’s society being transphobic, what i hate about living here, somehow literally every other teen and young adult has a nice long hair, and nobody seems to care, which is nice.
Unfortunally i also was forced to cut my hair when i was the kid, so now i will not cut my beautiful long hair ever again :3
The B-Side loves to make commentary whenever I opt not to get my hair cut(I still have not decided the extent of how long I want to keep it, it does not really get longer just bushier), but they cannot reasonably do anything about it anymore(adulthood is nice like that). I like it not shaved completely, but I also do not particularly care either. I have said it before that if I started losing my hair I would just shave it all off and be done with it. Too beautiful with too much to do and deal with to be bothered by the length of my hair atop it all.
That said–Rock your awesome hair! As long and flowing and as big and beautiful as you like, that is what is important. If you like it, let nobody stop you!
And the “family values,” cats need to be smacked with a fish. Their own Clan unites only when there is something to hate, then they go back to harming each other. They do not value anything other than authoritarian control and oppressing the vulnerable, and the second anyone in their life tells them to shove it, they get absolutely livid. Seen that play out one too many times dealing with the B-Side.
I like keeping my hair short, but that’s mainly because it makes wearing over-ear headphones more comfortable for long periods :3
People should pick the style they want tho!
counter-argument: music has a nicer sound to it when it gets filtered through a layer of hair (less sharp noises)
