Gonna block VetOfTheSeas. This is the ~third post of theirs which is clearly false, poorly cited, and yet gets so much attention. I don’t need clickbait in my feed, thanks.

Source: straight out of poster’s ass.

This is a Lemmy repost of a TikTok repost of a Twitter nobody paraphrasing an unknown news story, with a weird font that looks edited.

Of course, if ICE actually wore some standardized uniform with identification, then sure, impersonating a federal officer.

But since ICE is generic whatever tacticool, seems it’s too easy to ‘accidentally’ impersonate and it’s unfair to accuse someone of impersonating.

Of course ‘unfair’ is their whole strategy anyway.

Given they shot a woman in her car, disarmed then shot a man on the ground, abduct people from their homes, have disappeared thousands of children and run concentration camps with the highest rate of teenage pregnancies anywhere, I dont think they’d be above just blowing your shit smoove off then having the highest members of government label you as a domestic terrorist to hide their crimes.

Virginia passed a law to require them to wear unique ID and not wear masks unless there was a medical reason that made it necessary. The federal government took them to court and it’s currently suspended due to a judge approving an injunction.

yeah everyone… I’m with this guy. instead, stick to sawing down cameras, not talking to cops at all, practicing jury nullification as much as you can, and thoroughly ostracizing anyone even secndarily related to law enforcement. All cops are bastards, and ICE are below cops somehow. Bunch of idiot clowns. Right Wakmrow?

It is not. Just your regular social media disinformation.

I won’t support disinformation just because it is supposedly for the good side.

I’d believe people are dressing like them and causing confusion. Might even work for getting better footage of their actions. But they start fighting with each other like they don’t recognize the people they work with… That seemed dumb.

Everyone in the comments is wrong. It doesn’t need to be a funny and clever meme, and it isn’t trying to convince anyone to do this. It’s trying to get in front of ICE eyeballs to sow distrust, and you should help.

This sounds like something ICE would publish, hoping to catch someone dumb enough to try this.

Or it’s a great psyop - it doesn’t even need anyone to try this but if it gets in front of the right eyes it’ll sow seeds of mistrust in the eyes of many ice agents anytime they see someone they don’t recognize in their ranks. If it gets them looking at each other with suspicion, then it only takes a couple of fragile egos to start a fight.

But would it actually be illegal to try this? It’s illegal to imitate an officer but ICE doesn’t wear uniforms and badges so IDK if dressing in Cabela’s cosplay really counts? I’m not in any way suggesting that this is a safe activity, ICE shoot people for no GD reason, but I’m also not seeing an actual crime

Remember that it’s them who decides what’s legal or not until maybe a judge/jury say otherwise.

I’m not a law-man, but my laypersons understanding of the law against impersonating a police officer hinges on intent. If you intend to deceive someone into thinking you’re a LEO, and that can be proven (or can’t be disproved beyond a reasonable doubt) it’s illegal. Doesn’t matter if you’re in a suit trying to convince someone you’re Special Agent Mulder, or if you’re in body armor and a mask trying to convince someone you’re ICE.

Also as an American I 100% agree with magikmw’s point, that illegal or not it doesn’t matter if ICE decides they don’t like it - until you can manage to get in front of a judge, which may not be guaranteed. Then again even if you do, it has to be something you can reliably prove.

The absurdity of their lack of consistent uniform and identification aside, in this hypothetical the people start impersonating not simply because of their tacticool cosplay like ICE, but by being among them and accusing others of being the fakes, implicitly asserting they are the genuine ones. So if you happen to be tacticool cosplaying in the vicinity of ICE agents without taking action, then maybe you are in a defensible. But acting on that adds an element.

Of course, this would mean something except when dealing with a ‘shoot first, ask questions never’ scenario…

I mean… why not? In my opinion getting shot while following in the footsteps of Till Eulenspiegel and the “Hauptmann von Köpenick” is a honorable way to go…
