Was just saying this in another thread, but some pockets of the fandom having such an aversion to taking a top QB like we’ve been burned by it a million times before is so strange to me. We can bicker about whether he’s “generational” or just a good prospect, but we have literally never in franchise history taken a QB that even flirted with “generational.” Not once. I’d like to try?..

Of course he is. You literally had people on this subreddit blaming him for the loss to Washington.

All these posts of wanting new players all the time makes me think these posts are just hype trains for their guy to get employed. It is garbage.

Wait, you mean this fan base projecting Fields weaknesses as Caleb’s isn’t accurate? No way

This article is saying he’s still clearly the #1 QB in the draft, whereas I feel like a lot of people lately have been quibbling with the idea that he’s a generational talent based on a tough stretch of games.

Joel Klatt believes he’s the best QB prospect he’s evaluated outside of Andrew Luck. Dane Brugler has him a tier below Lawrence and Luck, but right up there with his draft mate Maye and Joe Burrow as a top 5 prospect of the last 10 years.

Daniel Jeremiah and Lane Zierlein have him 3rd behind Lawrence and Luck as the 3 best prospects they’ve ever evaluated.

Don’t listen to the echo chamber. This is a great QB draft and the Besrs will be taking one. Not fulfilling Fields truthers dream of MHJ.

I personally prefer Maye, but Williams has the potential to be great, idk why people are so against him

Call me whatever you want, but again I will say the Bears should not take a QB this draft.

“Oh u/chadder_b is just another Fields Truther!

Let’s stop there. I’m not saying Fields is the guy. I’m not saying he will turn the franchise around. But let’s list some facts:

    1. Drafting Williams/Maye will give us a rookie contract.

Cool. We already have one. Yes I know only for another year but Fields can be picked up for his 5th at a cheaper rate than signing him outright. Also Fields in under-performing right now. Signing him to his next contract wouldn’t be Mahomes/Burrow/Allen money.

    1. He a generational talent!

So was Luck. So was RG3. So will many other people who come along in the future. Williams is being dubbed “The next Mahomes” but it’s only a handful of years until that label is slapped on someone else coming out of college. It will come around again. Let’s not forget that Mahomes himself wasn’t highly rated coming out of college.

    1. This team isn’t “a QB away” from anything.

This team needs depth. O-line is improving yes but the defense can’t stop anybody it seems. I’m sure Williams would love to have 2 years of what could be the worst defense in college to having yet again another one of the worst defenses.

Gain draft picks. Gain players. Gain depth. Having 2 first round picks this year can turn into 2 more against next year. Maybe more. If this team is picking high again in 2025, then move on.

Besides Bagent seems to be very serviceable.

A lot of these field truthers are also Ohio fanboys, that’s why they are clamouring for MHJ too
