I recently created a QQ account and made this single post in the Off-topic -> General board. To my surprise, I got banned a couple of hours later for “Spam.” My post wasn’t commercial or anything; it was just a genuine discussion.

I’ve always thought spamming involved sending unsolicited messages to multiple users, not a single thread. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Is this a common issue on QQ, or did I just have bad luck?

On top of that, after posting this on r/Fanfiction, it was removed by the moderators because r/Fanfiction is not the place to discuss real-life drama. Now I’m starting to think it’s less about that particular site and more about the internet as a whole. The internet is quietly becoming a walled garden. It’s not just about one platform anymore—it’s the pattern. You get banned for a single, harmless post. A subreddit removes your thread because it’s “real-life drama.” Cumulatively, it creates an environment where you hesitate before posting anything that isn’t perfectly sanitized.

    No. The commercial internet is becoming a walled garden. It’s up to us to use the alternatives. If we keep using the commercial internet, we are not only entering the walled garden on ourselves, we are also putting the chains in our feet.

      I don’t agree that this is a corporate problem although corporate interests may influence the way in which the walls are governed. It is more a problem of the many facets of human nature that will lead to protection of ones own beliefs. Many “groups” of people have varying levels of tolerance for debate and so adding a level of sanitization will help in you being able to engage with them. I think being respectful and empathetic will keep the walls at bay. Sometimes though (which I have experienced as well) you’ll be dumbfounded as to how your comment could have been construed completely out of step with your intentions. In that case provide a reasonable appeal and then move on if you don’t get satisfaction. People be different.

    I expect this actually. To me the federation is like all the various bars and clubs and and coffee shops or whatever. Some will be snooty and some will be open but some will be crazy and dangerous. Its up to us as users to decide where to hang out where to avoid. I would absolutely love to see something like trust cafe where you can rate everything 0-100 and things default to 50 and how you rate things determines your home view but until then we 0 which is block and 100% which is subscribe. People seem to act like moderators have so much power but its really no different than our personal things. Go somewhere else and maybe it will flourish due to your prescence where the other stagnates and dies. Or not but I will hang around as long as I can find some places to have discourse.
