Is it just that the lady being recirded is trying to give a clever answer “poisson” because it’s already under water and maybe because it rhymes with boisson, but then the cameraman is just giving a straightforward answer (a zebu)?

Sorry about all the Instagram videos, it’s about all I get my French content right now. I can stop if it bothers Lemmy users , or at least try to transcribe it instead.

Woman 1: Quel animal n’a jamais soif?

Woman 2: Le poisson. [unintelligible for me, perhaps: C’est pas?]

Woman 1: Le zébu.

Zébu sounds like J’ai bu with a lisp. (Not really a lisp. Z sound instead of J sound.) “Quand j’ai bu, j’ai plus soif.” (As in Je n’ai plus soif, not I’m more thirsty) / Quand zébu, zébu soif.
    Great 3rd grade joke.

Thank you, that’s incredibly informative. So it’s kinda like the French equivalent of a lisp, eh?

It’s funny how both the word “lisp” and "susseyment’ are difficult for people with the impediment to say properly.

Yeah, seen from the outside, speech specialists seem pretty cruel in their naming conventions, I wonder what’s up with that…

@k0e3@lemmy.ca : OP, maybe you can add this to your post?

Being only a learner, I can’t get that much from it, either.

What is the problem with Instagram videos, anyway? I see three downvotes so far, but what are they objecting to, exactly…?

Haha, I dunno. It’s either people have an issue with Instagram or with French.

I really hope they are not downvoting instagram links on principle…

The goal can’t be to encapsulate ourselves here, and like it or not, most content is (still…) on the big platforms. If we exclude questions referencing that trove of content, it’s us that will be the poorer for it.

For example, I found OP’s question really interesting and learned something by trying to find the answer. And now, the next time an instagram user searches for “Quel animal n’a jamais soif? - Le zébu.” they might just land here instead of another platform and thus find their way to Lemmy. They wouldn’t, if OP had not posted here.

Posting instagram content is to be honest not very inclusive. You are nowadays required to have their app/an account to view the content. There are many reasons not to want that, privacy at the forefront of these.

Ah I just saw your post. I’ll try to limit my Instagram posts. Or, at least, do my best in transcribing it.

I totally agree with these points (and upvoted ;) ).

… But the alternative for OP would be to not post their question here at all. They would have been encouraged to stay on their platform / post on another monolithic platform that is more instagram-friendly. IMO, this works against Lemmy adoption.

From the perspective of a new/casual user still strongly embedded in the bigger platforms, it creates a hurdle - they have to decide whether their post will be considered “legal” here. What is effectively asked of them is to not only make the jump to Lemmy, but also from Instagram to e.g. Pixelfed, which imo is not quite there yet, or to keep their question to themselves.

Of course it’s a matter of weighing pros and cons, and again, I agree with your points, but we’ve reached different conclusions.

I would change my view if we were flooded with these Instagram “crossposts”, but [Edit:] this is still to be seen.
