A pretty close shave overall with some definite irritation on my chin. I’m thinking perhaps I didn’t stretch my skin enough while doing that section of my face.
The software combination was pleasant for a rainy Sunday morning.

Friends to the End is so great.
Shave #2 today because this morning’s straight razor adventure wasn’t good enough, and I’m on call this afternoon. Normally I’d wait and only shave again if I get called in, but we plan on being out and about this afternoon so I have to be ready to go.
My skin was certainly tender, but I was able to be ginger enough to not cause any more damage – and man what a close shave. I do love this razor.

Years ago, u/RockingMAC described this scent as similar to Midnight Stag, “but not as pungent.” I’ll agree with that. This is a vegan croap. I was worried at first that I had scooped too little, but the lather developed quickly. I had plenty for shaving my face and lower neck.
It wasn’t as protective and left a bit of irritation. I’m new to Southern Witchcrafts soaps, so it’s very possible that I didn’t whip it just right.
Have a good one!
Eucalyptus & Menthol, the Second - 4. Januar 2026
- Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin handle w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid knot
- Razor: Leaf Thorn
- Blade: Derby Premium half-DE
- Lather: Jean & Len - Fresh Menthol Rasierpaste
- Post Shave: OAM - Oli del Benessere Sensitive Skin Toner
- Post Shave: Benecos - Men 2in1 ASB
a single pass on both head and face, same software as yesterday. A bit of an improvement in terms of overall comfort.
My throat is almost back to normal, yet the stuffed nose remains. So I almost exactly repeated the shave of yesterday to improve my breathing. Minus the brush, I really wanted to use my snake fang again.
Funnily, Jean & Len advertise this shaving cream as “2 in 1”. According to them, it’d also work as a facial cleanser… “thanks to the coconut oil”- haha, yeah right. Probably enough menthol to freeze your face off and FWIW, coconut oil is a bit drying. Castor, Jojoba or Argan oil are good for moisture. Nevertheless, the cream provides a solid shave in a fast time with my usual method of spreading it with wet hands before lathering with a brush.
Tomorrow it’s back to my new workplace for the early shift. I’m kinda eager to learn something new. For now, I’ll go to bed. Hope everyone had a nice weekend, have a good time! ✌️

I re-honed this razor since it sucked yesterday. Today was an improvement, but I think it was mostly due to me changing my technique based on their recommendations printed on the enclosed slip of paper (see below).
I’m somewhat pleased because there was an improvement, dispelling some of my thoughts that maybe this razor just stinks. I held the blade basically flush with my face as much as I could, and the comfort improved significantly. The shave is closer than yesterday, but still leaves a lot to be desired.
For now I’ll keep it. I’m still intrigued by the history of this company, the condition that the razor is in, and the overall vibe. Yesterday I was worried that maybe the steel was crap, but now I’m back to thinking it has potential to keep a good edge.

I’m not good at taking pictures of straight razors, but here you go.
