Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that Ukraine had tried to attack Vladimir Putin’s residence in northern Russia and so Moscow’s negotiating position would be reviewed, but Ukraine said it was a lie.

Russia said Ukraine attacked the presidential residence in the Novgorod region overnight with 91 long-range drones, which were all destroyed by Russian air defences. No one was injured and there was no damage, Lavrov said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the accusation was a lie, adding that Moscow was preparing the ground to strike government buildings in Kyiv. He said the Russian claim was an attempt to undermine peace talks.

There have been stories of assassination attempts on Zelenskyy since the start. There’s no way he would have survived had the three day target been met.

It doesn’t burn as well as oil refineries, has only symbolic value and is likely 10 x better protected than an average strategic industrial site.

However, sending one or two drones irregularly - with no hope of arrival, just to keep the air defense launchers stationed there - that would make sense.

That might be quite the hit for his image though. “Dude can’t even protect his own house why is he in charge again?”

Kyiv should make it clear that they want Putin in charge because he fucks up the Russian war effort so consistently.

‘Putin Told Me’ – Trump’s Trust Test as Russia Revives Familiar Playbook – (Web archive link)

… Trump was taking questions at the doorstep of his Mar-a-Lago residence on Tuesday … when he offered a striking explanation for why he was “furious” over an alleged Ukrainian attack on Russian soil: Russian President Vladimir Putin had told him about it himself.

“You know who told me about it?” the president said, recounting claims that Ukraine had tried to strike one of Putin’s residences in northern Russia. “President Putin told me about it” … Trump said he was “very angry” about the alleged attack, calling it an unacceptable escalation – even while conceding that the incident might not have happened at all.

“It’s possible too, I guess,” Trump said. “But President Putin told me this morning it did.”

For critics in Washington and Europe, the episode sharpened a long-simmering concern: Trump’s apparent readiness to accept Putin’s word at face value, even as Kyiv denied the claim and US intelligence agencies had not publicly confirmed it …

      “Trump’s Trust Test.”

Anyone who trusts Trump is a fool. So it’s more a fool test than a trust test.
