Part of me is surprised this show has good enough ratings to still exist. I’m guessing it’s cheap to produce.

Cant be that expensive to copy all the jokes on r/neoliberal and then smugly jerk yourself and your conservative guests off for 60 min.

I wonder how cheap it might be, they still might have to pay Bill Maher a considerable some. People seem to like his panel segments depending on who his guests are so I’m presuming that’s where most of his ratings are coming from.

The panel is the only redeeming part of the show, really. His jokes are just increasingly of the ‘old man yells at cloud’ type.

True. I’m a right winger, so I do like how sometimes he’ll go against a left wing talking point in the monologue, but in my opinion he’s not particularly funny in those monologues, it just doesn’t work for me. But to be fair, I’m 23, not a boomer, so to an extent that’s not a problem because the show is not made for me. That’d be, fittingly, the role of Last Week Tonight, which in turn I really love despite not agreeing with John Oliver on politics.

Spineless Bill Maher is spineless, but that’s good for the unions he hates so much.

Back when he was still somewhat left-wing more than 10 years ago, I still watched his panel show, and it was apparent every single episode what a fragile individual he is. He demands praise constantly, but criticism makes his faculties completely fail.
