I have always despised g*mer chairs for their appearance and associations.
Can confirm, gaming chairs as a term is redundant imo.
Everything branded as “gaming” is garbage.
Had one once, worst piece of furniture I ever owned, I can’t believe these pieces of shit exist and are so common
Yep, going for an ergo
Pro tip: if you live in a city then go to office clearance places and see what they have there. Over lockdown I got a refurbed Steelcase chair for £250, and it shits all over basically any other chair I’ve ever even looked at.
I prefer Gamers Nexus’ take: if you found one that you like then don’t regret your purchase.
I had to replace my previous chair after “only” 4 years of use because the fake leather was peeling everywhere and making a mess every time I got up from it, but I loved that chair. I even thought about buying it again but if you’re just gonna have to change it every 4 years what’s the point?
I wanted a chair that was durable and I could sit in for long hours and the problem when you buy online (where it’s the only place I can get some actual choice) is that you can’t really try them obviously. And you see these chairs that look weird af but the manufacturer claims is actually super comfortable. Maybe. But I’m not taking the chance; I’ve had one of those chairs with a weird back shape and the first time I sat in it it was super comfortable, but then it started hurting my back because you could sit in it in only one specific way.
Anyway I looked at all their chairs and the Noble gaming was the highest rated one, and it’s a gaming chair. And yeah, I like it. I’ve only had it for a few weeks so I hope it’ll last me several years. It doesn’t have that fake bucket seat that restricts blood flow and while the padding is super firm, I actually prefer firmer surfaces to sit and lie on, and I suspect it’s true for most people because it keeps your spine in a straight line. Only problem is that the seat is super high up at its lowest position lol, I’m a tall guy already and this thing is almost too tall even for me. Not sure what I can do to fix this if anyone has ideas. Just don’t use the useless gimmicky pillows that come with these chairs, they will actually hurt your lumbars and cervicals.
The problem I think is people buy 100$ gaming chairs hoping to get quality on the cheap. At least I imagine. Most of the markup goes into the brand and aesthetics; GN contacted a factory to make their own chair (just to get the price) and the manufacturer’s price was 75$ per chair for a model that usually sells at 150$. Of course you’re not gonna get a great chair for 75$ at the manufacture point.
Now some people are recommanding Herman Miller chairs instead and like… they’re 1200$ chairs lol. I’m sure it’ll last a lifetime but I’m not going to pay 1.2k for a chair.
Ultimately chairs will work differently for different people. But moreover I think sometimes they tend to be either overdesigned, or underdesigned. They don’t actually look at ergonomics and just do what feels right it seems, without hiring actual experts. It’s a business like any other and they want you to purchase another chair some time down the line. If you want to be really happy with your chair I fear the only solution is custom-made.
I got a DX Racer chair back in 2017 and it’s still going strong.
It came with a 2 year warranty and right towards the end of it the hydraulic lift mechanics part of it stopped working. I submitted a request and idk if it was an error or what, but they sent me two replacement mechanisms. The one I installed in 2019ish is still working fine and I have another one in case it breaks.
The only thing that’s not in great shape is the lumbar pillow they sent, it’s doing the peeling fake leather thing, but the rest of its in great condition.
Overall the chair is comfy and I can game 2-3 hours without my back hurting which is key for me as I have ongoing back issues.
I think at the time it was close to $500 and I was definitely skeptical about spending that much but in my opinion it was well worth it. I don’t know what their quality is like these days, if it’s followed most companies it’s probably gone downhill, but I’m glad I got one.
