My brother in Christ, if there was such a thing as an open source car that I can build from scratch, I’d buy it.

Most the shit on this sub is stupid, but I have to admit this one gave me a chuckle, even if it is a little mischaracterizing Linux.

Edit: also, guitar hero basically already does exist on Linux (and Windows and Mac) it’s called Clone Hero

Like most jokes here, this one is just very outdated. I have literally never had to compile a package myself.

I honestly can’t tell if this place is a joke, it seems like literally one or two users with serious hate boners for Linux lmao. The vast, vast majority of posts are posted by OP here.

Why man? Just don’t use Linux then, ffs. This is like complaining why anyone would want to drive a motorbike when cars exist

and this is ignoring the fact that even most grandma of people can use Ubuntu

most grandma of people can use Ubuntu

If and only if it works out of the box. My last attempt at Ubunutu (about a year ago) lasted 20 minutes because it couldn’t connect to the WiFi during setup, claiming a wrong password. Even though the password was 100% correct.

I don’t care if it’s the hardware manufacturer’s fault or driver programmer’s fault or God’s spite. If Ubuntu cannot get these things right, and Windows (or even Linux Mint) can, then Granny won’t use it.

The same with people who insist it’s easy to build my own gaming PC. I’m sure it’s easy to build a ps5 with all the parts as well, but I DON’T WANT TO BUILD MY OWN ELECTRONICS. I don’t care how easy they claim it is. Unless it comes out of the box, ready to plug in, I’m not interested. I don’t have the patience to go through hours of tutorials

lmao this comment is pathetic. Putting together a pc is not ‘building your own electronics’, its plugging parts into marked slots. Its literally easier than most lego sets these days.

LOL. “I am disinterested in doing [a thing] that I don’t have to do.”

        “Hurr hurr, ur pathetic.”

Good fucking christ, this person isn’t into building computers. The opinion expressed is utterly harmless and their personal preference. You are free to build all the computers you want.

Its literally easier than most lego sets these days.

Oh, yeah, anything can be super easy for people are interested in and experienced with doing that thing.

Building a computer properly is way more than “plugging parts into marked slots,” and your comment is disingenuous at best. RAM timings, socket types, cooling selection, power supply selection, wire routing and dressing, version/generation conflicts, Red vs Blue, will the GPU even fit in this computer case, counterfeit parts… And this is all before the thing is plugged in.

PCPartPicker.com exists, handles all this for you with giant “you missed something” red text if something won’t work, and is one of the most commonly suggested beginner tools. If someone’s complaining about being told to build their own, theyve been told about that tool

People get scared of a very simple task because people like you spread nonsense that makes it sound hard

I AM NOT INTERESTED!! I don’t want an Ikea version of gaming machine. I have zero desire in doing it.

Which components into what slot? What brand and models? That’s enough for me to avoid it. I don’t want to do it, even if it’s easy

Building computers is really like LEGO. Building a bike is more complicated.

Preconfigured computers contain mostly garbage tier hardware components and additionally are way overpriced.

If you are content with that, loss is on you.

It’s not like Lego at all. Unless it all comes in the same box, with all the instructions. Have you ever built a Lego set? You don’t buy the pieces separately, hope they’re compatible and go on YouTube to find the instructions.

In want case, read my comments: I DON’T CARE, I AM NOT INTERESTED IN PUTTING TOGETHER MY OWN TV , WHY WOULD I WANT TO PUT TOGETHER A PC?! I don’t care how simple it is. I could put together my own burger as well but I rather the people at McDonald’s do it.

It’s not like Lego at al

You’re right! Unlike Lego the pieces aren’t interchangeable, so you really only need the basic skill of “square peg go in square hole” to do it, unlike Lego pieces fitting together at basically any angle so long as the holes touch

Shame you missed out on preschool education
