I’m not sure that it’s unfair to say “made with AI” when a photo is AI-altered.
Perhaps I’d have two labels: “Primarily Generated with AI” and “Edited with AI”.
Sure, but photos altered with AI is not the point of the article. In the article a photographer said that he suspects that the cropping/flattening tool he used somehow used AI, and therefore the AI metadata was included in the picture.
So, while the action using AI is “technically correct,” the photographer simply wanted to crop his picture; something that has been possible for decades without AI. He wasn’t aware of AI being used. And now Facebook includes the tag because of the AI over-engineered bullshit.
Personally, I don’t place all the blame on Facebook. They’re simply reading the metadata, and if the metadata says “yo, we used AI,” then welp, it gets the label. So, the editing tools are also to blame here.
I guess now I know. Before uploading a photo to Facebook/Instagram/whatever, I’ll make sure to remove the exif metadata.
Nah, fuck 'em. Either “Take better photos” or “Made with AI”. If you don’t have the dedication to sit there until the shot is perfect, why not just generate the whole thing?
Someone else has been to the pyramids anyway.
pretty sure it will tag it as ai even if you just use something like generative fill to remove a blemish
its been done for years without ai, ai just makes it quicker, better, and easier
and sit there until the shot is perfect? sure you can do that with the pyramids, cand do that in the streets. or maybe you’re shooting a car and you dont notice a minor imperfection in the paint. what, you want them to just trash the whole set of pics?
Again, point being “Do it yourself or get the tag.” I don’t care if Gen Fill is just Content Aware Fill with less steps. It’s an AI tool.
I know plenty of professional photographers who would just use the shot as is. Not everything needs to be studio perfect every time, just take pictures of reality. Angle, composition, lighting, subject - those all matter so much more than the one out of place freckle you need the AI button to remove.
If I use a flash and then tell everyone “I didn’t use flash, just momentary lighting!” not only am I stupid, I used a flash. Gen Fill is AI. Use the clone and stamp tool or accept your badge of shame.
Well, there’s a reason why I said “perhaps”. That’s as far as I’m willing to compromise. Anybody using a bullshitting digital parrot needs to have their laziness highlighted.
