Snowshadow:

A message from Canadians to US citizens: Dear US,

As the smoke from our wildfires continue to pollute your air and many of you struggle to breathe please think about this:

If you chose to abstain from voting or do not vote Blue, your air quality will continue to worsen because Trump will increase the use of and development of fossil fuels which will increase our wildfires.

Thanks for listening. Breathe easy today.

Donnodubus:

The U.S. is drilling more oil under Biden than it ever has, in history.

Snowshadow:

Sorry but I have seen you try this elsewhere.

Let’s get your facts straight here.

The US is “drilling” in order to keep the economy going, your transportation moving until alternate energy can take over.

At the SAME TIME he has invested MORE in alternative energy projects than any other president in history. He also has reduced drilling on federal lands.

So please take your right wing propaganda elsewhere!

Donnodubus:

It’s incredible that you think “keeping the economy and transportation going” somehow makes Biden’s oil drilling different from Trump’s — everyone drills oil for those reasons!

Yes, if you want to make a case for Biden, argue that he is expanding solar power or something — don’t mislead people into thinking he is reducing U.S. fossil fuels when he’s not!

P.S., fact checking pro-Biden campaigning is not right wing propaganda 👍

Snowshadow:

Please show me exactly where in my post I stated Biden was reducing fossil fuels? !! I will tell you…nowhere!!

pmonks (replying to DD):

Do you think a second Trump presidency would reverse that?

DD:

No one thinks that. The point is that Biden is not reducing oil output like his proponents are trying to make it sound.

We can’t solve the problem if we ignore it as long as a Dem is in office…

pmonks:

For better or worse, our choices are Biden or Trump. Anything else is a distraction.

DD:

Criticizing Biden is not the same thing as promoting Trump, actually.

In fact, criticizing him can push him to do better electorally…

pmonks:

Criticising Biden without also comparing and contrasting to the only viable alternative (Trump) is misleading at best, and imo downright dishonest.

Too many people cling to the fantastical notion that a perfect candidate exists. I don’t even believe such a thing is theoretically possible (let alone even remotely possible in practice). And that’s before I even start ranting about how whack our electoral system is, and how it’s only capable of giving us mediocre-at-best candidates…

DD:

And here I thought honesty was about telling the truth! My source literally does compare and contrast Biden with Trump!

pmonks:

So then why did you editorialise it in such a one-sided manner?

snowshadow:

When it comes to Biden, you always promote the negative take…never the complete truth. I have been through your replies and posts.

(in reply to DD’s claim of comparing and contrasting)

Wrong. If you do nothing but criticize him (and that is all you do-I checked through your account) you are pushing people into thinking of not voting or voting for Trump…same result. This is not the time to be full out negative, not this close to an election. Don’t aprove of Biden’s policies? There will be plenty of time to pressure his administration after the election. Push for Trump there will never be another election and you will never see a change for the better.

DD:

In case you haven’t realized, an environment where citizens can’t criticize their elected leaders is one where Democracy is already lost 👍 Furthermore, it doesn’t follow that criticizing Biden for drilling more oil than Trump helps Trump win.

There are many Trump-to-Biden voters who aren’t exactly environmentalists or Left leaning…

Snowshadow:

You are exhausting. I am done with you. You are completely missing the point. Bye.

pmonks (after a confused reply from DD):

How childish. Choosing not to engage with a recalcitrant troll is not even remotely the sane thing as losing an argument. Grow up.

( Transcriber’s note: I did this all on mobile, and it sucked.)

I keep getting told that EVs will save the world. Yet I’m not allowed to buy a cheap Chinese EV while being encouraged to spend a salary on a bazinga car that will brick if you open the door while updating the car. Is the government even subsidizing other car companies to come up with EVs? I don’t hear anything about Toyotas or Hondas which are known to be reliable.

People keep assuming I want Biden to perfect lol. I just want him to be good, and I can’t even have that. He doesn’t care about anything except getting Israel what it wants. What promise has he made that was kept after becoming president? What platform does he even have this year? If he doesn’t care why should I?

For better or worse, our choices are Biden or Trump. Anything else is a distraction.

Doesn’t sound like a democracy to me. If that’s the case, there is another choice: Fight the system entirely.

Don’t aprove of Biden’s policies? There will be plenty of time to pressure his administration after the election.

No, there literally will not. There is only one time you can pressure him, when he needs something from you. He needs nothing from anyone afterwards.

they were saying the exact same thing 4 years ago. How much pressuring have they done since then?

What, you haven’t seen the gish gallop they have saved to their clipboard that double dips on counting a bunch of “more female drone pilots” stuff and other things that never happened, already expired, or otherwise are counted as a win even though it was just a giveaway to big corporations and the MIC?

When Biden is president, he can’t even brush his teeth without congressional approval, but somehow trump will burn it all down in one day?

I was arguing with someone in Tiktok comments about this. They were saying I want gay people to die because I don’t support Biden. Later in the argument I asked what Biden has done to protect gay people and they said something like, “He can’t do anything because of Congress and the Supreme Court”.

I’m astounded by these people who believe voting is the only thing we can do to affect our government, while simultaneously believing that you automatically need to give that vote to a party that doesn’t do anything for you.

If your system is broken you try to change it. Not play aling with it. Why call it a democracy if you’re only allowed to decide between two brain rotten dudes I wouldn’t even put it in charge of a 7/11.

Ever notice how libs don’t even talk about fighting back against Trump if he wins again? It’s all “enjoy your reeducation camp/family being murdered”

They will not fight for anything. It’s an alien concept. The ones that say “any means necessary” are making excuses for Fanni Willis and her lover/employee potentially blowing an open and shut case.

Lib: “They’re adults, they deserve love”

Anyone else: “yeah, but this was super important and could have waited til the case was over. This was such an own goal”

Lib: “yeah well… Orange man bad”

Biden has already shown that overall in time his alternative fuel sources will reduce world wide drilling and reduce our dependence on foreign oil now–

FOREIGN oil?? Do they care about the envionment or do they care about Russia?

The last part is the most important. The last year has shown me that there is no sense even trying to reach them. If they come to us in good faith, that’s different.

This concept of “not voting for X is a vote for Y” is so annoying, and so pervasive. You cannot get away from it. It makes 0 sense but it’s also accepted as some undeniable basic political truth. And it’s not like it matters anyways, the popular vote literally does not matter in the US.

I’ve even tried the “there are three buckets” argument and they still can’t get it.

There are three buckets. A red one, a blue one, and a green one. I pour my cup of water into the green one, or directly on the ground. So, how is it that you count my water going into the red bucket?

imho the logic is reasonable but they don’t take it to its logical conclusion. Every dollar not donated to X is a dollar donated to Y!

This doesn’t make sense for anyone other than liberals.

A Republican voter deciding to stay home instead of vote for Trump clearly isn’t voting for Trump.

people really do just give themselves completely over to faith huh

like, the gist of the argument is that ‘of course eventually we’d switch from fossil fuels to alternative energy, because we’re creating all this new tech!’, but prodding any further makes it clear it’s less like ‘of course it’ll happen’ and more ‘i have faith this will happen’, because they haven’t/can’t/won’t examine anything further

like motherfucker, Biden won’t be alive to DO any of that!! bro’s not making it past 2028 AT MOST do you really think he’s getting shit flipped to alternative energy in that time? we’re suddenly gonna be divested of fossil fuels in HIS lifetime? let alone ANY of our lifetimes? please be for real with me cmon

Do you know how goddamned long I’ve heard “we are on the brink of renewable energy” only to have the rug pulled every time? I remember when people were hopeful for a future of flying cars, food in pill form, and robots to do all of our work.

Do kids even talk about that kind of stuff anymore or have we completely crushed their spirits?
